I have it bad. I wake up in the middle of the morning with it burning my throat and I can’t breath. Oh well. I just man up. Gotta have my steak and foods and alcohol.

That stuff had the same effect on me.

The Omeprazole? Yeah, it was awful. It first hit me as I was giving a speech in speech class. I literally booked it out the room so fast apologizing to my professor along the way hahahaha. It was pretty hilarious after the fact....

UPDATE

Alright so I had my endoscopy done last week and just got the results from the doctor.
Read on if you are interested.

Diagnosis: Gastritis (inflammation of stomach lining)
Cause: too much acid (I think it was brought on by drinking whiskey on empty stomach and having big dinners. So the whiskey and over eating probably induced the extra acid which then inflamed the stomach. And since it’s now inflamed it’s hurting even with normal amount of stomach acid)
Remedy: stay on acid reducer and low acid diet for 1 more month and check back if pain returns.

-----------------
From this point I'm going to share some things I've researched and felt personally so take it for what it's worth.

Medication: So when this first occurred to me about 4 months ago I went to my GP who prescribed a med called omeprazole (a group of med called PPI). When I went to pick this up the pharmacist says, you need to wean off this just so you know. I think nothing of it and start taking it. Was a big mistake. The body when you stop taking PPIs will secret immense amount of acid to compensate thus causing another wave of reflux. Some ppl are never able to get off it because of this. You can research the web for how to wean off. I’ve successfully weaned off of omeprazole and am currently on OTC zantac (a group of med called H2 blockers) which is much safer than PPIs and is working fine. Hopefully in a month I can wean off of that and take tums/pepto as needed.

Diet: keep to an alkaline diet. Point is to neutralize the ph in your stomach. DON’T TAKE caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, carbonated drinks, tomatos, cigarettes. These are what’s considered universal. In my case whole grain bread and nuts also induced acid so you do want to sort of try things out. DO EAT veggies, meat, mushrooms, seafood. For fruits always google to see if it’s acidic or alkaline before eating. I ate a shit load of cabbage, honeydew and cantalopes. ***Diet is very important***. Meds don’t do shit if you keep eating acidic foods. Just stay off acidic foods until your stomach or eso****us heals then hopefully you can slowly go back to your regular food. I can’t wait to have some whiskey!

Supplements: Honey water instead of coffee in the morning helps. DGL Licorice (currently I take it before meal, but not doing much…) There are others like mucus pills and slippery elm, but I did not try.

Hope this helps someone.
Go Bears!

Thanks, inflamation of stomach lining, wonder if that is the common issue for most and does that include the eso****eus. If AR left untreated can develop into cancer, yikes.

I thought I saw something on a class action suit against PPI manufacturers, didn't check specifics. I tried them with no results at all. My ar is'nt predictable at all, meaning I can consume any of the common agitators one month without any issues and the next I'll have a few beers and Boom.

I think then you have it lucky. Just carry some tums or zantac with you in your car or work then you take it as needed.
There are folks who have it everyday.
But even worse are some who have reflux and don't even know it because it don't hurt. They are usually the one's that end up having eso****al cancer.

I'm doing the weaning thing I suppose.

I am taking my med like every other day now or every 3rd day depending on symptoms.

Doc told me changing your diet and using the meds will allow your stomach the fastest path to heal, but if your diet continues to include some of the triggers it isn't that it won't heal necessarily, it is just that it will take much longer.... hence I think why people get stuck on using the meds because they keep stressing their stomach and never allow the medicine to give it time to heal.

One thing I just can't give up is coffee.... I only drink 1 cup a day, but I can't give it up.

I can hold back on spicy and I try to hold back on acidic fruit juices and chocolate.

Shit is hard. I dilute the hell out of my coffee like 10:1 compared to how I used to drink it.
I had a chocolate about a week ago to test and was fine, but yesterday was a no no...
Same goes for cola some days are okay some not.
Too scared to try spicy food or tomatoes yet.
Just playing it by ear

I love coffee, bold, strong, black without anything added. It is what I miss most when I'm going without because of AR.
