NYY just hit 3 grandslams in a game. First time in MLB history. They also have 13 walks. Cubs would be happy with 13 walks in 1 week LMAO

PS: why isnt this tagged? Like to see it back up top

Indians Close To Deal For Jim Thome
By Zach Links [August 25 at 4:56pm CST]
A deal to bring veteran slugger Jim Thome back to the Indians is nearly complete, according to Nick Camino of WTAM 1100 (via Twitter). The Twins placed Thome on waivers on Monday afternoon and yesterday we learned that the Tribe had the winning claim.

Thome has a full no-trade clause and was said to have his eye on a return to Philadelphia, not Cleveland. The Indians could surely benefit from a reunion with Thome as designated hitter Travis Hafner is on the disabled list with a strained right foot.

Thome, who will celebrate his 41st birthday on Saturday, belted 334 of his 601 career home runs with the Indians.

The Giants rid themselves of two veterans on Wednesday, designating Miguel Tejada and Aaron Rowand for assignment, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News (via Twitter).

The Giants owed Rowand $12 million for 2012 and will have to pay him that entire amount.

Miguel TejadaSan Francisco is activating Pat Burrell from the disabled list and call up first baseman Brett Pill. Pill was hitting .312/.341/.530 with 25 home runs and 107 RBI at Triple-A Fresno -- and if he can do half of that in San Francisco, he'll still help the Giants' anemic offense. Burrell has been out since July 14 with a foot injury.

Tejada, 37, was hitting just .239/.270/.326 with four homer ins in 91 games for the Giants, while Rowand, 33, was hitting .233/.274/.347 with four homers in 108 games.

If only Soriano's contract ended after next season... I'd almost say do the same thing. However, I think Soriano could be tradeable if he only had one more season left.

Very probable... if they don't find a way to unload him somewhere.

If your another GM would you trade anything or pick anything up in contract when its about 99% chance he will just be released? So if Cubs dont want him they will have to release him outright. Part of me understands that he needs to go where the baseball part of me just would like Cubs to keep him 1 more year and get what you can out of him.

That's a step in the right direction for them. Now if they would only keep Belt in the lineup...

Honestly, if I were a GM that could get him say $200K... maybe around league minimum.... then yes i'd give up a prospect for him. Not saying it would much of a prospect.

If I were a team with a bad contract, I'd consider swapping contracts. For example, if I were the SF GM, I'd explore trading Zito for him.

I agree, just stating scenarios where another GM might find Zambo appealing. I honestly don't think that Zambo will be traded. Then again, I didn't think there was a chance that Bradley could be traded... nor Hundley... nor Sosa.

The guy who made those three trades is now gone, but maybe a better GM looking to make a splash with the club might be able to pull off a miracle or two as well in his first winter.

The Rangers have added another bullpen arm from the Orioles. Just about a month after getting Koji Uehara to bolster the back-end of the bullpen, the Rangers have dipped into the Baltimore 'pen again, this time grabbing left-hander Mike Gonzalez. The Orioles get a player to be named later in return, the club announced Wednesday.

Also, according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com, the Rangers have acquired catcher Matt Treanor from the Royals for cash.

Uehara, 36, has been pretty bad since the trade. He has a 5.59 ERA in 9 2/3 innings, after posting a 1.72 ERA in 47 innings pre-trade. Though he's a right-hander, it's possible his shortcomings since the deal pushed the Rangers to pursue another option to help provide a better bridge to Mike Adams and Neftali Feliz. If nothing else, adding Gonzalez just provides more depth.

Gonzalez, 33, has a 4.27 ERA and 1.38 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings this season. He's never been to the playoffs and finishing five games out with the 2007 Braves was the closest he's ever been. Now Gonzalez is a member of a first place team on August 31 and -- by virtue of being added before September -- is eligible to be on the postseason roster.

Treanor, 35, is hitting .226/.351/.306 in the bigs this season, but he has been on the disabled list since late July with a concussion.
