Hey I didn't want to kill the flow. But your right, I actually have a connection with this girl so if I knocked her up I actually have to take responsibility. it was my friends girlfriends friend, so i cant just hope she doesn't remember my name. She is a cool girl though, I am actually thinking about grabbing her number, and hanging out with her and maybe something further, not just sloppy drunk sex, although I enjoyed that too.

I enjoy art... just don't discuss it much. People talking about art always reminds me of the Crash Test Dummies song, "When I Go Out With Artists" - find it and listen if you have a chance.

There's nothing really logical about the art I like, but I did see some work by a guy named Tyson McAdoo in an art gallery when I was in Key West last September and I liked it. I've always been a fan of the Vargas pin-ups, but this guy's stuff just seemed like such a fresh take on it... (slightly NSF)

I love pin-ups and yes Vargas is also one of my favs. Who doesn't love Vargas if they are a pin-ups fan? Thanks for posting McAdoo's site. Never heard of him and I am enjoying his work....hehehehehe. Actually Yomo you are right very fresh take on the pin-up style. Like the modern touch.

and this is my I am fucking done look when I am painting.

While I do find painting takes my mind off a lot of stresses it actually creates a lot during the process. I am not one of those who find painting relaxing. It's an anxious process for me and I do think it shows in my work. I envy those who can get a relaxing feeling while painting or creating any form of art. I actually find the conversation of where ones emotional and stress levels are when creating art work a very interesting one. I would love to hear from fellow board members about where their mind sets and emotional sets are when producing a piece. That goes for you musicians also or writers etc etc.

As a musician, often times a chord progression just finds my fingers and BAM! - there's a song... doesn't seem to be as much necessary to elicit that emotional tether other than "subconsciously" finding a tune that pleases my ears. I tend to write more ballady stuff, but I think it's because if I'm writing I'm usually on an acoustic and it lends itself to a softer approach. If I'm feeling strongly enough about something I can sit down with the intent to write, but mostly - I just let the song find me.

Lyrics... that's where the process requires a lot more. Sadness and anger are the easier conduits (for me) to write and I've often mused that "melancholy makes for better music than happiness." If I'm feeling too happy - everything I write about sounds like shit unless I'm trying to push that into more of a comedic spin. Honestly, feeling like shit makes for a better muse for me.

God I sound like a pretentious douche... well, moreso anyway.

Yes, quite. Thank you for saving me from having to state the obvious. I shall remember this the next time you give me grief in the Books thread calling me pretentious or some such or saying that "talking about" art in the Art thread is full of poseurdom ye olde tortured musician!

I've come to the conclusion that there's almost no way to talk about one's personal "art" without sounding like a stupid jackass.

If it makes you feel better, Bookie - I think most of what I write is total shit.

I don't know, I don't think while doing it so i suppose in that sense it is calming, I think before I draw of what i want to draw and set out with the goal of doing exactly that. I am thoroughly a conceptual artist. I like drawing things be they persons or places or objects. I am not very abstract, i am not creative in that manner.

what i do for art varies. I like to do alot in the digital realm as well. Through combinations of software coding, 3d modelling, and 2d art work for textures, I added Roman soldiers to a medieval video game, i often times will find myself spending more times doing this with games, than actually playing them if they are very exposed for modding.

Or stuff that I did completely in photoshop with no sketch or anything, i just started doodling around and came out with this.

I have sketchbooks just filled with stuff, but my scanner broke a couple years back and I just havent gotten a new one.

Oh and dont anyone start thinking im some sensitive emo tool because i photoshopped up a couple of pretty landscapes, im still an asshat.

I can't get any of your links - it just shows "posted image"....

Painting for me is stressful if its for someone specific who wants something specific, although that rarely happens to me.

Most of the time, the closest words I can use to describe how I feel is "excited" and "inpired"...

But it can get stressful if nothing is working - the paint is not mixing well, your brushes won't give you the right stroke, or you run out of a certain colour (no white! nooooooooooo) etc.

Sometimes I feel right in the groove, other times I feel lost. Luckily more of the former.

One thing though - I don't think non-artists realize the thinking that goes on when you paint, usually my head is just buzzing with activity - I may look calm and sedated, but there's a lot going on up there!

TCD - glad you like Moonlight Over the Port of Boulogne as well, although I suppose my favorite Manet should be Nana. Samesies!

No, your favorite Manet should clearly be Olympia damnit! Because it is AWESOME. Okay, okay, maybe I should not be so bossy and it should just be MY favorite Manet, heh. With The Balcony coming in the two-spot. Sighs. . .I guess the sad realization here is that we can't be Samesies with everything under the sun huh?

hmmmm I do like that myself. Dark yet calming. I don't know much of his works other than his famous "portrait of the artists mother" (I believe that is what it's called).

I think I will call my next abstract "Besties Samsies".

Ginnie I think I feel the same ways you do when I paint. And YES there is no worse feeling and stress than when you run out of a color on the spot!!! ohhhhh that makes me soooooo mad!!!

TSD don't get me started on digital art lol. It's a form I really have to start looking at more and understanding. I am from the conservative group of artists and I fear that digital forms are really threatening to artists like myself. Silly I know. I certain love what technology and the digital era has done for art esp photography but I feel it takes the rawness and edginess out of a lot that I love in the arts. It is often "too clean" or "to streamlined" for my personal tastes. But tis the evolution I suppose. Like your stuff though and I would never saw digital formats are not art. While I can not define what "art" is or means I do tend to believe that human imagination is always involved. That opens up a door for a lot of things to be classified as "art". I like that.

. Really though thanks for the likes. Always means a lot. Can I ask what it is about the white/red one you like?

Yomo..nicely said about it being hard not to come of a bit pretentious when talking about your own works. I agree. I think that is actually the passion and love of what one does more so than being pretentious. I don't think there is anything wrong with that at all.

you can essentially use photoshop like you would paints and a canvas. There are definitely alot of things about it that require knowing the technology though. I normally just use photoshop to color line art(that is photoshops bread and butter for coloring imo), I was never very good at painting or coloring anything in general in the traditional medium, with the exception of chaulk pastels. For some reason i could color things great with chaulk pastels although i would wear the prints off my fingers rubbing to the point my finger tips would be stinging.
