Proper play or not, when your teammate gets completely blindsided, after the fight is done and no one reacts enough?

I would in the foxhole with Shaw any day. 6 games? If I was coach, I would call it a rest, enjoy yourself.

One reason Eagers days were numbered (after the Wiz on Seabs hit).

I'm assuming that all the guys were still on the bench as the horn went off to signify the end of the period? I could see Shaw jumping the bench right when the whistle sounded and and being on the ice already when this went down, but it seems this wasn't the case.

He did what he did, and now he has to deal with the consequences..

In honor of Mr. Shaw, I paste perhaps my favorite hockey "highlight reel" I have seen.

RIP Bob, but you got knocked the **** OUT...

How many times do you think he broke his hand? Jesus, I haven't seen a guy throw punches with reckless abandon like that in a long ass time. Just punching helmets like nothing.

Makes ya wonder... Although I remember an interview with him 1000 years ago and I recall looking at this hands and thinking: "Damn, getting hit with a Can of Spam probably hurts..."

What happened was the bones all fused into a ball so it was like bashing them in the head with a bone mace.

Don't get me wrong. I want my teammates sticking up for me. I am glad he did that. however, couldn't there have been a better way to go about it? Wait till the next period? I don't know, I am not a pro player. I am not even an amateur player. But the way I see it, if he is such an important part of the team, if he is that strong of a defender of teammates, him being gone for 6 games doesn't help shit.

The player on the Monsters broke "the code" and no one on the Hogs that were on the ice made him answer for it. When someone blatantly breaks the code that badly, you do whatever you have to do to settle the score. Whether it makes sense or not, it's how it works.

I know the code. But there also has to be some smarts. Again, if he is that important to the team, he has to take it on himself to not be suspended for 6 games.

It was clear that Bordeleau was going to get tossed from the game and the ref maybe even gave him the hands to the hip already when Shaw jumped the boards?

If no one did anything... that team's toughness would be questioned. For instance... remember this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TERA-GY2K1o

The shit storm after it really hurt Buffalo. No one stood up to Lucic at the time of the incident nor throughout the rest of the game.

In the case of Shaw... the smallest guy on the team took on a guy who is 6'6" 240lbs. Speaks volume of his character. As RK said, he got the brunt of the suspension for abuse of officials, not coming off the bench.

You can ask any coach and I bet they'd tell you that they would be proud of Shaw if he did that UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES on their team.

I am not questioning his heart, nor his ability to defend. Yes, he should have toned it down a bit with the officials. That's why he was booted. For jumping the boards, maybe he got a day or so, but the officials thing that was dumb. He is no help from the press box.

Was it smart? Nope. Was it responsible? Nope. Was it nice to see a player with passion in a time where people forget they are paid and receive income from a game? Ye'up.
