If your going to nurse consider renting a commercial/professional grade breast pump from a durable medical equipment company. It will be worth the expense. The cheap deaprtment store ones just aren't very good and tend to be painful. The nursing consultant at the hospital you delivery at can probably help with that item. It will be very useful.

If they know they are likely to have at least another kid down the line I'd lean towards what several of my friends did which was expensive as a ***** though it was they registered/bought the sweetass Medela pumps. If more children are in the pipeline then I agree with them that the several hundred bucks is more like an investment but you are right if it's one and done then renting is a great option.

Don't forget a booger snatcher to suction out their nose. I'm not sure what they are really called. Wino can probably tell you.

Bulb syringe. Nursery at the hospital will normally give one in the new baby package they send you out the door with.

We'll likely have at least one more, but I'm not sure when, and I assume if you are renting you'll have the latest and greatest? But how much can they really change?

I think we paid $20-25 a month, with a $50 security deposit, but that was 11 years ago. That is likely to be more now. My wife was okay with the nursing until 4-5 months with each kid then got tired and stopped. Wasn't worth it for us to pay $200-300 to buy a commercial/hospital grade one last time, before that we couldn't afford it.

Put the big ticket items up there. Cribs, strollers, car seats, bedding, dressers, etc. Onesies, Desitin, baby wipes, diapers, bulb syringes, bottles, nipples, nuks, mittens, hats, baby vicks, baby nail clippers. Make sure you get the leak bed pads. They go under the sheets and keep the mattress from getting ruined if there's a leak, and there will be a leak. Umm, might be something I'm missing, I'm sure.

Edit: ROCKING CHAIR. Make sure you have one. Will save you SO much sleep....

listen, i'm right in the thick of this shit right now.

first, get a fucking changing table. you'd think it would be redundant until you are changing her and there is an unexpected shit and/ or piss. thank me later, it will happen. and it's not pretty. now just think if that was on the couch or the floor. yeah.

this is the combo car seat/stroller to get. pricey but we have found it to be worth every penny.

the seat snaps into the car base and the stroller, so easy to get the kid around that way. plus the stroller is usable way after they outgrow the seat.

nursing is a ***** in general and she will hate it. you gotta get a quality pump to make it bearable. the one my wife used has this funky hands free attachment that looks ridiculous....but it is WAY better than holding onto the collecting bottles every time you pump.

any other questions get at your boy.

you never have enuf receiving blankets, onesies or t shirts whichever u prefer or sleepers

for newborns i prefer the long nightgowns with the foldover sleeve....sort of a sleep bag simply loved them

i used cloth diapers as burp clothes....more absorbent

Everyone uses cloth diapers as burp cloths. They're cheap, reliable, just the right size for throwing over shoulders, ideal for grabbing to clean up messes in a hurry, and you can by them by the dozen.
