I can use dictionary.com/google too.

Mediocre comes from the latin for "middle"

Some synonyms: common, fair, indifferent, medium, middling, ordinary, passable, run-of-the-mill, run-of-the-mine (or run-of-mine), second-class, second-rate, so-so

First definition: of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate.

Related Words for : mediocre
poor, second-rate, average, fair, middling

HOLY SHIT!

Well what do you think lead to the overall mediocrity?
Notice the related words of poor and second-rate. The word has and is used to mean less than average as well.

Yeah, I did notice them...

I also noticed that most of the other terms basically meant "average" and weren't in a negative connotation.

I seriously think you're the first person I've ever come across in my life that took the word "mediocre" to mean anything but "average", "common", "fair", etc.

Congrats I guess.

The definition you posted, the definition I posted, the related words you posted all include negative connotations. The definition I posted had moderate or low quality. Your definition had second-rate. The first two related words in your list were poor and second-rate. To act as if I am the only person that thinks mediocre is capable of implying something less than average is disinguenious at best.

I never said they didn't.

In fact I just pointed out how most of them aren't negative connotations..which would acknowledge that there are some "negative" ones in there.

Poll 1,000 people and ask them if to them mediocre means "average" or "low quality" I'd put heavy money on "average" going all Charlie Sheen.

Okay so the word can mean what I took it as, and I stated why I thought you meant it that way. I fully admit that I should have been able to pick up the context better based upon the earlier posts of Davis this year to Wells last year, but I saw the words mediocre and incosnsistent next to each other and took it to mean a below average year. I'm sorry that I didn't realize at the time you meant mediocre in terms of being average.
