I have an old Batman graphic novel by Frank Miller called "The Dark Knight Returns". I have heard there is some inspiration from this story in the movie (the film is not a complete retelling of Miller's novel).
The short of it is that this story takes place long after Batman has hung up his cloak after the world's superheroes (in the DC universe that is) decide to work in cooperation with the US government (not to the liking of the Batman at all). Events fall into place that cause a middle-aged Bruce Wayne to put on the costume again and Superman is called in by our government to rein in the rogue vigilante.
That last sentence is where I see this movie being inspired from and how you get two heroes to face off against each other.
(The trailer even has a two second flash of Superman in the Oval Office)
The Dark Knight Returns was awesome. I'd highly recommend reading it or even watching the animated movie (though not as good) and if you do watch keep in mind it was wrote in the 80s and drips of it.
I had no idea they adapted DKR into an animated movie. I don't know if I would go out of my way to see it, but now I am curious. The Dark Knight Returns was awesome. The movie will blow if it follows the DKR's storyline!I had no idea they adapted DKR into an animated movie. I don't know if I would go out of my way to see it, but now I am curious.
I don't think this movie will follow that storyline other than the idea that Batman is retired at the beginning of the story and that the government asks Superman to put a stop to a "rogue vigilante".
I thought TDKR was really good. Part 1 wasn't as good as part 2, but part 2 is the movie that'll be most similar to BvS. Did you see both parts?
They were called what if comics. There was a Batman vs. Superman and Superman went nuts because Louis Lane died. In the comic, Superman had given Batman access to Kryptonite in case Superman ever gets out of hand. Batman defeated him in the comic with said Kryptonite. I dont know if this is the story they are going with but this was the story in the comic Batman vs. Superman.
I don't understand why they went in this direction. They barely have Superman set up, now they have to introduce Lex Luthor, an aged (for some reason) Batman, Wonder Woman and whatever the hell Lois is doing through all of this. Just looks like it'll be a mess. Seems too much like cramming in as much as possible and half assing it in order to catch up with Marvel.
I liked the trilogy except for the last movie. Heck I love the 1989 Batman and that doesnt match up to the comics at all. Just this movie seems like they are going to jam too much stuff into one movie
Here is the major character list
Batman
Superman
Wonder Woman
Aquaman
The Flash (maybe)
Lex Luthor
Cyborg
So of those listed only two already have their origin story laid out in movies. You can argue The Flash is laid out in the CW show if those shows are going to be connected to the movie universe but this movie is either going to leave a lot of audience members wondering where everyone came from (seriously how many know Cyborg's origin story) or the movie is going to be an origin story fest.
As far as I know besides Bats and Sups, Wonder Woman are the only other heroes to appear. And from what I've read their parts are really small.
I don't think Cyborg or Flash will be in this movie. And we don't need origin stories for all of these heroes. They're some of the most recognizable names in comics. We know who Aquaman, Wonder Woman and the Flash are. We don't need to see their history. Lex Luthor isn't some unknown villain either.
