I have an old Batman graphic novel by Frank Miller called "The Dark Knight Returns". I have heard there is some inspiration from this story in the movie (the film is not a complete retelling of Miller's novel).

The short of it is that this story takes place long after Batman has hung up his cloak after the world's superheroes (in the DC universe that is) decide to work in cooperation with the US government (not to the liking of the Batman at all). Events fall into place that cause a middle-aged Bruce Wayne to put on the costume again and Superman is called in by our government to rein in the rogue vigilante.

That last sentence is where I see this movie being inspired from and how you get two heroes to face off against each other.

(The trailer even has a two second flash of Superman in the Oval Office)

The Dark Knight Returns was awesome. I'd highly recommend reading it or even watching the animated movie (though not as good) and if you do watch keep in mind it was wrote in the 80s and drips of it.

I thought TDKR was really good. Part 1 wasn't as good as part 2, but part 2 is the movie that'll be most similar to BvS. Did you see both parts?

I had no idea they adapted DKR into an animated movie. I don't know if I would go out of my way to see it, but now I am curious.

I don't think this movie will follow that storyline other than the idea that Batman is retired at the beginning of the story and that the government asks Superman to put a stop to a "rogue vigilante".

The movie will blow if it follows the DKR's storyline!

This movie will be fucking terrible. Know what movies do kick ass though? Gigli, 200 Cigarettes, Pearl Harbor, Shakespeare in Love, Daredevil, and Surviving Christmas! Absolute masterpieces!!! (pretty sure I left out a couple)

Why don't they just have Doomsday show up and pound Supraman's face into the ground? That would be considerably more entertaining than this dude doing anything.

They were called what if comics. There was a Batman vs. Superman and Superman went nuts because Louis Lane died. In the comic, Superman had given Batman access to Kryptonite in case Superman ever gets out of hand. Batman defeated him in the comic with said Kryptonite. I dont know if this is the story they are going with but this was the story in the comic Batman vs. Superman.

Block the sun and superman gets weak. Batman whooped his ass in Millers version. However the spleen and kickass would beat them both.

I don't think the plot has been revealed yet. I was at comic-con last year, and saw the same teaser trailer. I'm sure Batman and Supes will be buddies by the end of the movie and a new threat will arise that will join them up. Justice league plots, new Batman movie, etc.

I don't understand why they went in this direction. They barely have Superman set up, now they have to introduce Lex Luthor, an aged (for some reason) Batman, Wonder Woman and whatever the hell Lois is doing through all of this. Just looks like it'll be a mess. Seems too much like cramming in as much as possible and half assing it in order to catch up with Marvel.

Justice League: Doom (animated movie) deals with batman's plans to take everyone out. They get stolen JL finds out and is super pissed and asked about batman's own case and batman drops the bomb and says he created it and gave it to supes.

Here's what I dont get about Superman. The ****** can move planets, he can bench press a planet. How does he not win every fight. It is a simple formula "Can you withstand a planet being dropped on you yes or no?" If yes you have a chance if no, you are super duper OMFGBBQ dead, he wins. period the fight lasts long enough for him to punch you with the strength to move a fucking planet.

I read it the same way, catching up to marvel. They need to just give up competing with Marvel, they aren't as good, I love DC and they cant hold a candle to Marvel. If Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman weren't DC they'd fold.

What they need to do is be happy just co-existing with Marvel and do their own thing and layout their own universe and build it up. Batman v Superman is going to be too cluttered, too many new heros introduced too many boring as fucking balls back stories.

Also any Batman fans sick and fucking tired of the movies and comics rehashing his parents' death? I am too the point where I am glad they got shot good on them **** them and stuff because OMFG I am sick of seeing it. Yeah I know his parents were murdered EVERYONE FUCKING KNOWS THAT. A starving ethopian that has never even seen paper knows batman's fucking origin story stop telling it to us.

They don't need to do the orgin story on Batman again, I just dont understand why they want to start off with an older (possibly retired when the movie starts) Batman. Makes no sense.

None of you people own Batman or Superman!!!

I was ripped apart once for enjoying Dark Knight Trilogy a lot and I don't even give a **** about the comic history of Batman. Yah ripped fucking apart for being entertained by a fucking film trilogy as if I raped peoples daughters. Just said "i liked the trilogy" and i was jumped on by a bunch of fans for that comment. Scared the shit out of me. Gets really fucking old how people protect fictional shit and start thinking they own it. Yah I get it, it's a franchise and I understand nerd passions..**** I am a god damn professional wrestling fan...big professional wrestling fan..probably doesn't get nerdier but like I give a shit. But I can seperate thinking I own pro wrestling and allow another audience to enjoy it the way they want to enjoy it and not jump on them aggressively for liking things that I don't.

I am going to purposefully LOVE every single batman and superman movie ever made now simply to piss off the sensitive fans after the ass ripping I got for likeing the Dark Knight Trilogy!! You brought it upon yourselves!!! BEN AFFLECK IS ALREADY THE BEST BATMAN EEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEE EEEEEEVER!!

Ummm, don't see anyone doing that here. I'm a huge Batman fan but I wasn't even thinking of it as "protecting" anything, just that from the outset it looks to be a fucking cluttered mess of storylines just as far as a movie goes, no matter what the movie is about. It's obvious DC is feeling pressure to catch up but Marvel spent years and built the foundation of their massive franchise with several different movies each focusing on just one of the main characters before they went all in on a movie like "Avengers".

I liked the trilogy except for the last movie. Heck I love the 1989 Batman and that doesnt match up to the comics at all. Just this movie seems like they are going to jam too much stuff into one movie

Here is the major character list
Batman
Superman
Wonder Woman
Aquaman
The Flash (maybe)
Lex Luthor
Cyborg

So of those listed only two already have their origin story laid out in movies. You can argue The Flash is laid out in the CW show if those shows are going to be connected to the movie universe but this movie is either going to leave a lot of audience members wondering where everyone came from (seriously how many know Cyborg's origin story) or the movie is going to be an origin story fest.

As far as I know besides Bats and Sups, Wonder Woman are the only other heroes to appear. And from what I've read their parts are really small.

I don't think Cyborg or Flash will be in this movie. And we don't need origin stories for all of these heroes. They're some of the most recognizable names in comics. We know who Aquaman, Wonder Woman and the Flash are. We don't need to see their history. Lex Luthor isn't some unknown villain either.

Those listed are all casted according to IMDB with the flash being the only rumor. Regardless of how recognizable they are still got to tell their origin story just because they are recognizable doesn't mean everyone knows where they come from. The only origin story beat to ever loving fucking death is Batman's
