I prefer to be all homer and chug the kool-aid. It’s a helluva lot more fun watching your team win, especially when you expect it and be ecstatic than bittersweet because your undying pessimism continues to cause you doubt, calling every win a fluke.

And if they suck, that’s what beer, whiskey, and food that is shitty for me is for. I love football and my baers, but don’t take it so personally like so many around here do.

If I don't believe in Garroppolo yet, I agree I am older and wiser and not excited by a flash or a pan. EVen Nick Foles was a flash in the pan his first season.

HIm and Chip stormed the league. Carson Wentz has "it"...you just see greatness and unreal decisions and fight and gunslinger...they got one.

Trubisky? This is like the least known Qb a team has ever gone "all-in" with...except maybe Garroppolo.

Trubisky has to throw for 4,000 yards before I raise an eyebrow of hope. When a Chicago Bears QB enters the millenium and throws for 5,000 yards maybe I will speak again.

It's like some of us don't even watch the NFL. Do they realize you don't have to have all-pros up and down the roster to be a playoff and even SB contender?

Every single team has weak areas.

If we make 6 more trades as good as the Mack trade we might stand a chance.

Win now mode can last more then one season. I'm talking the next 2-3 seasons are win now. If we don't we're going to be in a world of hurt and probably looking for another QB.[

Not anytime soon, we gave up our next 2 years of #no 1 draft picks

I think one of the many reasons they traded for Mack was to make the defense so good that MT doesn’t have to win games. Now, fictional warrior spirit not withstanding, MT will be good enough to win games with experience. I don’t know why a fan would agree and be somewhat optimistic.

Absolutely correct. And if Trubisky turns into that great QB who can make the players around him better...a truly elite QB, we can then let some of that defense (and offense) walk in order to pay him as such.

If he only turns out just good or OK, then we make a decision on Trubisky, depending on his market value...

Any of you guys think they'll be putting Mack at DE some and they would have Lynch out there as the other OLB?

Floyd, Mack, Smith, Goldman, Trevathan, Hicks and Lynch for some series

That's a pretty nasty looking front 7

Convince me I'm wrong

You’re wrong. Even in rebuilding years, Bears have always been about winning now, not just this year. That’s the point of the game is to win, no matter how much you suck.

among the greatest advances in the Pace era is the team doesn't seem to have that endless tolerance for bullshit. pulling the plug on Trestman after 2 years and Fox after 3 is pretty welcome. but they're patient, they don't just jettison everyone and start over 8 times like the Raiders or Browns have. I have to believe it's all according to some greater plan. this is easily the most excited I've been to see the Bears since 2013, you know, the last time they cleaned house. I just hope this story ends a lot better this go around.

Yeah, the main difference being during rebuilding years we didn't have the talent to win. We have the talent to win now. We shouldn't get blown out by the Packers 55-14 like we did in 2014.

Of course. You are correct. I don’t think a big start signing creates a win now situation though. Like pace says, if talent is available to make the team better and we can afford it, you go for it. That’s all he’s doing. Just getting better players at any time just to make the team better.

yeah but we wouldnt be looking to replace MT anyway even if we had those 2 picks. Pace went all in on MT and he is giving him plenty of time to develop.

No, Pace is not just signing a player to the biggest deal ever "just to get better". That would be stupid and shortsighted, lacking any type of plan.

This is an extremely calculated move made because Pace believes he has put together a good enough core that a player like Mack has a shot to put us over the top.

Except this isn't a "cleaned house" scenario. No defensive scheme change, or trying to replace a good DC with Mel Tucker and forcing him to keep the same scheme. All starting offensive linemen have been on the team for 3 years. The new coach isn't here to "fix" the aging QB, or boost morale in a shitty locker room. This just seems like a total offensive upgrade with a couple key, elite pieces added on defense.

The Mack trade made that very clear. And it makes sense; Pace has had four full off-seasons and completely rebuilt the roster. He doesn't have three or four more years to **** around, they need to be competitive now. The only question mark is Trubisky. If he's good, the Bears are in a Superbowl contender window for the next few years. If he isn't ... ****.

Exactly. The Mack trade signaled that there will be no second-chance quarterback. Mitch is it. If he’s not good enough to help make the Bears a winning team, it’s the next GM’s problem. Pace knows that, and he’s gotta go all-in.

I tend to think they’re *still* a year away, but there ain’t no “wait a few more years and see how the young team progresses”. If the Bears don’t make the playoffs next year, I think we’ll either start to see some desperation moves, or they’ll start packing it in. We’ll see!!

If the first round pick in 2021 is a high pick, they will take a QB. Of course, it will not be Pace doing the picking or Nagy doing the coaching.
With The arrival of Mack, Pace is in effect saying “I’ve got the pieces I need to win.” He has the coaching and talent that he wants in place. Now we see if it works. There’s no excuses, it’s sink or swim time for the Bears and Pace.

Not a terrible thought, but I doubt it—You’d be at least partially neutering your best edge rusher by taking him off the edge. The Bears are already blessed with Hicks as their inside sack threat. I’d keep my best edge rusher on the edge—OLB in a 3-4–the most efficient way to get to the quarterback, which is what it’s all about.
