Yeah, the main difference being during rebuilding years we didn't have the talent to win. We have the talent to win now. We shouldn't get blown out by the Packers 55-14 like we did in 2014.
That was rock bottom, and not the only 50 burger the Bears had dropped on them that year, either. So glad that is behind us.

No, Pace is not just signing a player to the biggest deal ever "just to get better". That would be stupid and shortsighted, lacking any type of plan.

This is an extremely calculated move made because Pace believes he has put together a good enough core that a player like Mack has a shot to put us over the top.

Nope.

Yes, they are 100% a win now team.

The minute Ryan Pace reached into his tailored slacks and hoisted his massive balls on to the table for John Gruden to stare at, he announced to the NFL that they were serious about winning.

It might not be in 2018, but the window is now.

This is probably the most talented and balanced team of my lifetime.

I am not going to piss and moan around here like a bitch trying to kill anyone's buzz.

This team had an offseason that teams and fans only dream of. They decided not to waste one more second of their young and developing QBs career. I for one am beyond fucking thrilled that they decided to make some bold ass moves and go for it.

My best friend is a Colts fan and he has to sit back and realize that they are rebuilding now and by the time they are done they will have pissed away 8 years of Andrew Luck's career.

Then you are saying Pace did something extremely stupid, and also completely contrary to everything else he has done as GM, for no apparent logical reason...

Not even close. Try again.

We are "trying to win now" as opposed to "have to win now." I feel like signing Cutler, Marshall, & Black Unicorn and coupling them with an aging Urlacher, Briggs, and Tillman was more of a "backs to the wall, win now" situation.

I'm not worried about Trubisky; he'll at least be good, not great. Mack, outside of an injury, is a slam dunk. I'm more worried about AR and Gabriel being bad signings that we get stuck with. Miller can't carry the team, and White?? Are you kidding me? He's gone next year. With no picks to supplement our WRs again.

Convince me I'm wrong

Personally, I agree.

I'm not so much looking for playoffs this year. Too much growth needs to happen still just on O. But to me, there absolutely needs to be clear signs of progress this year and shit needs to start really clicking by the second half of the season.

But to me, playoff expectations start next year.

The Mack trade made that very clear. And it makes sense; Pace has had four full off-seasons and completely rebuilt the roster. He doesn't have three or four more years to fuck around, they need to be competitive now. The only question mark is Trubisky. If he's good, the Bears are in a Superbowl contender window for the next few years. If he isn't ... fuck.

And Nagy. His system, gameday coaching, and playcalling are all still big question marks.

It sucks that our only real big question mark is Trubisky, but that's the way it worked out. Worst case scenario, he gives us Bortles level play and with this D that should be enough to be competitive.

How else could/should it have worked out? Get a QB a few years earlier and be faced with that contract sooner? Dude actually got to start pretty quick last year to grab some experience...granted it was via Fox, but he held it in check with few turnovers & few open WRs. Things timed out pretty well for him IMO.

Can't put it all on Trubisky....

Agreed. It's in his hands, but he could roll out another Orton type year and they'll still end up several more wins than last year for numerous reasons stated all over. He's got the luxury of easing into Nagy's playbook each week as he and much of the offensive skill players learn right along with him.

This year seems very similar to the 2015 Cubs. Should surprise some people. Not us, but most outside of the close fans who paid attention.
