Mooney is a good WR but not a #1. Doesn't have the size. I'm just asking what the plan is at WR if they ditch Robinson. Will leave a huge void.

I don't know why people care so much about #1 vs #2 WR's? Who cares? Mooney is already good and will probably get a lot better his second year. Kmet will also get better. Cohen will be back. WR looks strong in free agency. The draft looks good. There's lots of solutions.

It's not like this team has been any good offensively while he's been putting up 1,000+ seasons. The Bears best season under Nagy offensively was when he had under 800 yards. Maybe they need a more balanced attack? Maybe they need more speed? Obviously they need better QB play and Oline. Not saying losing AR wouldn't hurt..... but it's not like they're doing good with him either.

  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Using a $180.5 million projected salary cap, PFF’s Brad Spielberger estimates the receiver tag will be worth $15.808 million in 2021. Estimated tag values are based on 120 percent of the player’s previous year salary or the average of the top five salaries at a player’s position. But this estimation is unimportant to Robinson, who will have his own Franchise tag number.

huh? wait what???

There's no projection here, as Robinson would have his own franchise tag number because of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement. The tag number for each player is either the league-wide calculation for their respective position or 120% of the player’s prior-year salary — whichever is greater. Robinson's “prior-year salary,” per the governing section of the CBA, is his full $15 million 2020 cap hit, so a tag of $18 million would come into play.

What does size have to do with being the #1 wr? He could get stronger and work on route running more, but he has every other tool to be a #1 wr. For real though, what did you see from him last year that made you thought “His size will never let him be a #1 wr”.

He's 174lb and hurt his shoulder on a routine play. Steve Smith one of the smaller legit #1s I can remember was 2 inches shorter and 20lb heavier.

If Mooney had a legit QB last year, he puts up close to or a little over 1000 yards. Like you said, I don’t care if he is a #1 or #2 Wr, he’s going to be a solid weapon for the Bears. Just like any successful Wr out there, you need someone on the other side who is productive as well. If it’s not ARob, then find a cheaper Wr who has the ability to go for 800+ yards.

Like I said, he needs to get stronger/bigger which will happen with time. What does getting hurt have to do with not being a #1 Wr? Do you need a list of #1 Wrs who have been hurt during their careers? Your argument is just stupid.

Tyreek Hill would like a word..5'10 and 185...Mooney is also 5'10 and 176, so not much different.

In today's NFL with the spread passing attack, the concept of a #1 is really over blown. I mean Tampa's "#1" had only 70 receptions this year, but they won by spreading the ball around because they had the right combo of WR's: The speed guy, the jump ball guy, the crafty veteran and the above average athletic TE.

That is what is more important that a "#1" WR, but the make up of the corp as a whole. We clearly have the speed guy in Mooney, a young talented TE in Kemt....We just need a couple more complimentary pieces and obvious a QB that can get them the ball.

Couldn’t agree more with you. Mooney has shown he is the speed guy, the jump ball guy and Mr Reliable. If ARob we’re to get extended then those two could be a very productive Wr duo. If Kmet fixes his fumbling issues, he will be a nice piece in the middle of the field. If Nagy or whichever HC could use Cohen to his strengths, he can be the weapon we saw a few years ago. But like we’ve mentioned and every other Bears fan knows, the FO has to get the QB locked down.

I would argue Kelce is their #1 with 1400 yards and the most targets.

Kelce is a TE, not a WR.
Position doesn't need to be wide receiver to be a number one. Alvin Kamara was the Saints number one this year, Christian McCaffery was for the Panthers in 2019 too. You could really argue the best two targets for that Eagles' Super Bowl team were Goeddert and Ertz, though Jeffery was still at least decent then.

Goeddert wasn’t on that team.

Oh, I completely agree but we have specifically been talking about WRs, not overall weapons.

Between Tarik Cohen coming back and some expected development out of Darnell Mooney and Cole Kmet the Bears will probably still have an OK stable of weapons even if Allen Robinson II departs. I think its actually really important they find somebody who can replace Jimmy Graham (who is obviously going to be cut).
