The same can be said about other positions. By the time 87 has come around, the CB and Edge markets have been picked dry. All of the great CBs and edge rushers are gone.
Wouldn't it be a smart idea to get one of the complete running backs (top 3) this year and spend a 1st (trade up) or 2nd on CB/edge next year when you aren't scraping the bottom of the barrel for them?
You have the choice of drafting the starter at RB or a back up at CB/Edge this year. A starter is always more valuable than a backup.
We still have free agency after the draft and free agency still has some good names out there that can be a 4th edge rusher and a 2nd or 3rd RB, shit a guy like S.Ware could be our #1 RB. His problem has been staying healthy but when he is healthy he can run, block and is a really good pass catcher. CB is another story and think he'll definitely use one of our earlier picks on that but you never know what R.Pace will do in these drafts.
RB
S.Ware--This guy has proven himself to be a really good all around RB when healthy.
B.Powell--Not a 3 down RB but has really good pass catching skills and can run the ball, just not 20-25 times a game. Good fit with Davis/Cohen.
J.Ajayi--Of course has the health issues just like S.Ware and just like S.Ware he is a 3 down RB that can do it all.
A.Collins--Not known for pass catching but has caught some balls but he can run the ball 20-25 times a game.
Edge
E.Anasah--Health issues but still a beast when healthy. He'll be looking for a starting gig anyway so don't see any way he'd sign with us.
N.Perry--Again with health but has always shown he can produce when healthy.
C.Barwin
S.Ray
Dion Jordan
S.Acho
CB
M.Claiborne
R.Melvin
O.Scandrick
Vontae Davis--What happened to this guy? He used to be a really good cover corner and is still just 31. I think maybe it was injury issues but not sure if his game got bad even when he was healthy.
K.Webster
There's actually some pretty damn good names still out there especially since we don't really need any of them for starting jobs and many will sign for very cheap one year deals after the draft.
