Bears should have a good chance to draft a QB in 2016.

The QB that I really like and no one seems to talk about is Paxton Lynch from Memphis. He is a Junior but if he puts up stats that I know he will then he will enter the draft. He's huge 6'7" 245lbs but he's mobile and good throwing on the run. He doesn't throw many INT's but does throw TD's. His accuracy in the past (62%) has been an issue, however, this year in the first three games he has a 76% completion rate. Things are looking up for this kid. Look at his highlights and catch a Memphis game. Kid is pretty impressive and growing into that big body he will get even better, IMO. Keep him on your radar.

Without a huge turnaround from the defense I don't see how they can't load up on defensive talent the next draft.

If we have a top 5 pick, we will take the best QB, LT, or DL available. You have to get an elite player at one of those positions with that top pick -- period. No CB's, no WR's, it must be a QB, LT, or DL.

If we want to spend the rest of the draft acquiring LBs, and CB's, fine. But not with that top pick.

Yeah depends if the QB is a can't miss to me, otherwise I try to rebuild the D with young players next year, then draft a QB with Cutler's contract expiring.

Drafting a QB also helps us allocate more money to free agents. Cutler's cost is 16/mil per year. Next year it is a 10 mil cap hit, so that isn't much savings. But turn to 2017, if you are paying your young QB 5-7 million, that is an extra 9-10 million you can use on a free agent.

Nkemdiche
Bosa
Tunsil
Stanley
Hargraeves
Goff
Jalen Ramsey (Maybe)

Those are the elite prospects imo.

Ideally, we'll earn a top 3 pick, trade down for more picks, and still end up with one of these prospects.

I heard some talking heads discussing this tactic and it is beginning to make more and more sense. A "can't miss" (which we all know doesn't exist but as close as you can get) LT, DL or maybe even LB and shoring that up with some solid subsequent picks on defense could really make a huge difference. If the Bears were to get a top 10 defense last year that would really, really help long term.

Besides, this board would have 1/10 the posts if it didn't have Cutler for people to cry over.

Sorta sad that this is a week 2 type thread...

Severe lack of talent on the defensive side. The offense can be serviceable as of right now - a lot of guys playing out of position on. The D, kind of a round peg square hole type of situation. I think they can pull it together a bit but this beginning stretch was always gonna be rough. Any given Sunday I've heard though.

ND is horrible.
I am OBVI a huge tOSU fan, but the fact people still think Cardale is worthy of consideration of a top 5 pick makes me feel like some of you simply watched the final two/3 games of last season and extrapolate from that all sorts of things that aren't true.

Guy isn't prepared to come in and start for an NFL team in 2016- I don't see that at all at this point.

I called this before the season and his relative struggles btw.

Also:

Nkemideche (sp?) > Bosa by a little because of his freakish size/speed/explosion which allows him to slide anywhere in a 3/4 and rush the passer.

Stanley is an absolute stud at T, and would be a fine pick if we slip a bit...

Tunsil is a factor and has a super high ceiling.

Goff needs the rest of this yr to really convince me, but his arm talent blows the rest (including Cook) out of the water at first glance. Guy has an NFL arm, RIGHT NOW AT 21.

if we're talking round 2/3 or trading down, there are 1-2 DBs from tOSU who would look great in Navy and Orange- Von Bell and a pair of RS Sophs. in Eli Apple and Gareon Conley....i'd be more interested in them than Cardale honestly at this point. Conley has been on of the best DBs i've seen this yr in college and he wasn't even a starter last yr and Bell is an absolute stud.

Cardale is at Kevin Hogan's level right now. At this point, he is a Day 3 prospect.

A lot of positive reads on Goff. It is going to be interesting to watch him play against tougher competition this year. California is not very good so I want to see how he performs. Very high percentage we go QB if we have a top pick. Might as well be the number one pick. We never seem to be that bad. This year, it looks that way. The good thing is we do go QB next year, it is going to be like we are getting two number one picks with White returning. Drafting high in the 2nd Rd will help, that is if we select the right players.

Competition would be my concern with him also, but it's really just a crap shoot when it comes down to it. For every Luck there are a handful of RG3's.

A quarterbacks taken early in the first round does not guarantee a very good/great quarterback. I do feel that the Bear will likely take a QB early, but when isn't certain. Could be the first round pick... it may be the second.

Agreed. Between the hits and misses, the quarterback is tricky because it's the most important player on the field, but really is only a second round position when can't miss guys are present.

I just don't agree with drafting a QB in the first or the second rounds. I know we need a guy to be the nexxt guy at the position, however we have vastly more serious issue on defense. We need to start adding some kind of young, impact type of players there, we lack that right now. I'm sure we can sign a few players for the defense, however guys that make huge impacts aren't generally out there. We signed McPhee, but to me he's a role player nothing more. I think by the time the end of the season rolls around his play will prove that. We need to start adding some top level types through the draft and build this thing back up from the ground up. I get the QB reasons, but I truly believe defense is such a big need we absolutely have to start our first two picks off with the best defensive player available. We'll be picking high, so we should be able to get the best defensive guy, or at least one of the best guys in the first, and a quality starting type of guy in the second. Then we could go with a QB in the third or go OL, my preference.

watch goffs usc game from last year. thats actually the game that won me over, because they struggled. he was under pressure all game yet his mechanics never broke down and he never lost his composure, he was calm and collected and look poised the entire game never quitting and fighting til the end.
