Imagine the mess it will be against that Rams line. Bring a broom...

That play where #94 comes in untouched looks to be a counter. If that's the case everyone should be blocking down while Daniels pulls. Instead it looks like Witzmann decides to double his man instead of block #94, and Burton takes out the end. Daniels lets #94 go right by and stuff the play then doubles the end instead of hitting the hole and actually blocking a linebacker. That play was doomed even if Howard gets away from the initial tackle. If Daniels realizes no one blocked #94 and actually takes him out, Howard has a possible cutback lane to run through.

and why he's better where he's at.

I wasn't implying they should change them up now, more so should be considered in the off season. More to think about as a center and if Daniel has trouble at guard, not a good idea to throw extra stuff at him as a rookie.

This is why we need Mitch to play, a mobile QB covers oline flaws.

But why are there SO many Oline flaws?!

I agree about Hiestand. I wonder how many folks recall he was here before and our Oline was not good then, either. Funny how he goes to ND, where he has talent that is above most of his Oline players' opponents, and he becomes "one of the best in the business." I call BS on that assessment. Quenton Nelson is a physical freak, and McGlinchy is a large and very solid athlete. Of course they developed under Hiestand, but I believe those two would have become good anyway, esp Nelson.

And sorry, but whoever claimed that Daniels' success is a result of Hiestand's coaching is WAY off base. Are you forgetting that Daniel's spent 3 years being developed at Iowa, who pumps out NFL lineman on the regular, the vast majority of whom are NOT 4 star guys. In fact, more are 2 star and walk-ons, with occasional 3 star guys. To give Hiestand credit for "developing" Daniels is just a silly assertion.

The Bears hired Hiestand in 2005. They had some pretty damn good years the first time he was here.

This was by far the worst game of the season for

Leno
Daniels
Wirzmann

Daniels and Witzmann were painful to watch.

On ESPN 1000 they were talking about how the Bears are just not good OG to OG right now and I have to agree.

Daniels has been pretty good.

That tape was his worst and out of character if you have really watched him.

They need a big bounce back game.

The Bears clearly need to invest in the OL next season and hope that Coward can upgrade over Massie.

Daniels wasn't so bad he had a few bad plays but nothing crazy witzman has no business being on a football field. Where thr **** is kush ?

Can we stfu about running the ball now? Maybe we should consider that our coach knows how freaking awful this o line is right now and running the ball isn’t going to work.

Put Kush in and the OL can still block forward. Daniels needs reps to understand when to hold a block and when to release to the next level etc.

What I hope can happen is that Shaheen can play more and matchup 1 on 1 against some OLBs.

That would allow the Bears to more consistently double team inside.

I do not know whether Shaheen can line up with Dante Fowler, but it is worth checking.

The Bears hired Hiestand in 2005. They had some pretty damn good years the first time he was here.

Well, he came over with Turner from Illinois, inheriting 2 former #1 draft picks (Tait at OT and R Brown at LG), both FA signings by Angelo prior to Hiestand's arrival, plus a probowl C in Kreutz (drafted by Bears in '98). They also added Garza G/C and St Claire OT, so he had some talent and experience with which to work. Sort of like the equivalent of 4* and 5* guys he had to work with at ND. Sure makes a coach look good when your talent is superior to those they are competing against.

But '08 and '09 saw some of the worst OL play I've ever seen. And to be fair, Angelo did not exactly restock the OL shelves. But in '09 the Bears sent Turner and Hiestand packing.

At least the OL should be more consistent in reads recognition, but they are super inconsistent in their technique, too. I don't know where the notion of his prowess as an OL comes from. Just don't get it.

I thought the reason we brought in Harry Hiestand was to fix this?

Also, has the line been this bad all season or just since Long went down?

The oline is not bad but not as good as procieved. It depends on who the guy is behind the center. The Bears line is not good enough to put a limited QB like Chase behind vs heavy blitzing. If Trubs would have played that game he would have burned the Goants for blitzing. Which would have helped the run game. The Giants knew Daniels couldn’t make them pay & the Bears oline wasn’t good enough to constantly stop the blitz.

And #78 is a half of a blocker.

The good news is they were that bad and with a backup QB in the game and they still took it to OT. Rams will make them their ***** though.

Appreciate the work that went into this. I have to say, I completely understand why Nagy didn't try and run more in the second half now. I see why he doesn't have the confidence to run it 25-30 times a game like some of us would like. It ain't gonna get any easier Sunday night either.
