Salesmen are the scourge of captalism. They produce and create nothing, which is why the only accomplishment they can brag about is money. And usually so dull because of it, that when they retire with loads of cash, they spend 16 hours a day on a message board bragging to randos about their ca$h.

Dull and jaded.

No one in sales is over the age of 50 anymore, mostly because old dogs have an issue learning new tricks.

51 is exactly right, any dotard can hammer out a sales pitch and deal, but if you don't even understand what service you're selling, I have no interest in talking to you.

Sorry pops, the rolodex days have long past. Networking is cake now, sales guys are donezo. Welcome to the internet!
More idiot talk. There is a move to hire more 50+ reps because of the changing demographics of baby boomer managers as they age. Sales is more than hammering out a pitch. Probably the low level selling you are used to. A $700M deal is about change management within the enterprise and how to effect it. That includes painting a complex vision, mobilizing numerous technologies and resources that impact many divisions within a company. You have never done this so you dont understand the complexity and time involved. It's really over the head of typical engineers

You just made a pitch to me about how sales is about more than making a pitch, while breaking down what "making a pitch" entails.

This is awesome.

Maybe it's different in the software industry, customers take the word of a guy with no knowledge of the product. In my industry is sure as hell does not work that way.

Can you imagine buying something expensive from a guy that doesn't even know how his own product works?
Selling enterprise level systems requires a functional knowledge of the technology but more importantly the value to the enterprise

Tell you a little story: years ago the largest farm implement company was embarking on an SAP initiative where they wopuld spend 1 billion dollars and change the company. IBM brought thier engineers in and talked bits and bytes. I took a different tact and brought in a top level exec from my company that implemented SAP for our company. Instead of talking engineering tech features we talked about what truly impacted him: how do you change the direction for 40,000 employees, spend a billion dollars and not get fired in the process. So, I guessed that "change management" was most important to him. We took the opposite path of IBM and pitched helping them manage change. The customer Exec said it was the finest vendor meeting of his carrer. I got a $10M starter order in a week

That's how you do it bitches.

You should make a thread about your top sales campaigns and how people who arent in sales are losers. then people who want to talk about donuts in Chicagoland will have a place to do that.

Thanks.

The ones about sex crimes seem to do just fine. Just work more sex crimes into your threads going forward.

Until then....

Seems a later opening than most, losing out on some business.

Exactly my thoughts. Opens earlier during the week for commuters and such. But figured it would be open early on weekends too.
