Really, I am between the Ram and Silverado. Still have not ruled out the F150 and Sierra.

Biggest thing is I want a crew cab and I only need to eventually pull a camper so I probably only need a half ton.

Anyone have any experiences with trucks?

I've got a RAM 1500 Crew Cab Longhorn 4x4 and I still love it as much as the day I bought it. Really smooth ride, tons of room in the backseat, plenty of power, super nice interior.

The sales off MSRP are crazy good right now. I was looking at Big Horns and some are about 52K MSRP for around 40 after the sale. I was looking at the Big Horn because leather isn't too important for me and with Apple Car Play, I really don't need the GPS as I can just mirror my phone to the monitor.

Oh, one other thing, getting 4x4 and the Hemi V8 is really important to me as well.

Is a Longhorn similar to the Big Horn?

Fairly close. Most of the differences are in the interior, which it sounds like you don't care about (leather, wood trim, heated / cooled seats, really nice factory stereo, large screen for GPS / backup cam etc). Looks like this:

I basically wanted all the benefits of a luxury sedan w/ the versatility of a pickup, and this thing nailed those requirements. But the Big Horns are great trucks too, just minus some bells and whistles. My bro in law has a Big Horn and loves it too.

Wow, you even have the sunroof. That color scheme looks awesome.

Also, just my opinion, but you get a lot more truck for the money when comparing RAM vs a Silverado. I'm sure some Chevy guys will jump my shit, but that's just like my opinion, man.

At the risk of being Omelet, that's not my truck, but it was the closest I could find doing a quick image search. I don't have a sunroof, but everything else is the same (except I'm in bad need of a detail after my long road trip).

GM has a lot of really loyal customers. I could see people being all over the Silverado. Both trucks look sharp.

Apparently, the F150 is the top selling motor vehicle so it must be good too. I just don't like the way it looks for some reason. Will probably end up test driving it too.

I've always been a Chevy guy so I'd go with the Silverado. I've honestly never driven a Ram, but my FIL is a big Ram guy. Owned them his entire life. He bought one brand new 2 years ago and has had trouble with the transmission. Just had to have it towed to the shop two weeks ago. Obviously, small sample size here and I'm sure they are great trucks, I just have never heard good things.

The only 2 things I know I want to get or add are the spray in bed liner and the running boards. Maybe some other smaller luxuries but my goal is to stay under 50K out the door.

That sucks. Could have been a lemon, who knows.

Do you have or know anyone that has the Silverado?

The RAM boxes are a nice feature if you happen to find one that comes with them. Definitely not a deal breaker, but I end up using mine quite a bit. You sacrifice a little width in the bed, but not really too much since they are built where the wheel wells are.

My dad owns a GM dealership. Driven them my entire life and every model they have came out with since I became driving age. I don't currently own one though, not very economically friendly for my commute lol. My dad drives a 2012 3/4 ton. He's not very flashly lol. It hauls his fifth wheel like a horse tho.

Overall, Chevy, Ford and Dodge all make quality pickups and honestly I think the differences are very minimal other than design. I am just biased for obvious reasons.

Definitely will have to do my homework there and I am not familiar with the Ram boxes. Someone else mentioned them to me also.

With me working from home now though, I'm starting to get the itch since I don't drive as much. Interest rates are low and they need to move inventory. I've taken a peek at a couple. I just really hate spending money lol and the prices of some of the newer models are quite honestly outrageous. Spending 50k on a vehicle is a hard pass for me.

IMHO, GM is one of the greatest American companies out there. The successful and versatile products they have put out over the years is quite remarkable. I really can't find a car they make that I can dog on. Maybe the Spark, lol.

When it comes to these trucks though, it really does seem like I am splitting hairs.

Here's a decent little write up on it. I'm not sure if anything has changed on newer models (probably nothing significant):

Looks like a good buy to me. I am not too worried about the lost bed space, I just want to avoid the metal getting scraped and shit sliding all over the place. I probably will get a short bed as well. Don't think a 6'4" with crew cab would even fit in my garage lol.
