IMHO, GM is one of the greatest American companies out there. The successful and versatile products they have put out over the years is quite remarkable. I really can't find a car they make that I can dog on. Maybe the Spark, lol.

When it comes to these trucks though, it really does seem like I am splitting hairs.

We have owned 4 Cadillacs. Don’t think I will even consider buying another. All had reliability issues; one particularly terrible.

Damn, you make me look like a pussy for not installing my new brakes on my TL just last week.

Brakes are my least favorite job...filthy and smelly!
I always manage to soak my hands in grease and brake fluid and then cover them in brake dust, then scratch my nose and have a black streak on my face for days.

Newer or older?
I always thought it would be awesome to have that front wheel drive one from the late 70s...
The one christian Slater drove in true romance.

New. Bought and drove them in large part because out confidence in the brand and the dealer. After experiencing both the brand and dealer we don’t have confidence in either. One of the vehicles we probably could have used the lemon law. All were towed in for one reason or another. Dealer didn’t give a shit.

That sucks.
I have never been able to justify going brand new on a vehicle- the prices and depreciation are just insane.
I would be furious to pull the trigger on a new one and have repeat issues.

We were furious. And the dealer is over-all pretty good. I just think one of our situations should have been handled differently. But it soured me on a brand and dealer.

Especially in the age of carfax- someone drives the bugs out, you see the records if there is anything alarming, and you can make a solid choice. FInd one where the owner respected it and it is as good as new at a fraction of the price.

It is like the old kings making someone taste their food for poison before eating. Yeah, you miss out on the first bite, but you know you wont die.

What I am finding though is that if I go on autotrader and I filter on a 2 year pickup truck that has 1 owner and no accidents and lets say 20,000 miles.... the asking price is only 2-3K less than buying brand new. The discounts off MSRP are that good! Normally, I would go the certified route. Just questioning if it is worth it with these deals.

maybe the world has changed on the certified.
Would it be worth your while to go see how open the dealers are to dealing on the older models, just for frame of reference?
Just see what the deal is?
Just hazarding a guess, but I would bet they got the vehicles for bluebook tradein or less. how much of a drop does your desired vehicle show in that scenario?

Yeah, I have to start the negotiation game. I don't have to get a new truck and IIRC 2018 models have the apple car play which is the only real gadget I am interested in. That and backup camera which I think all vehicles have since 2017 by federal law (atleast that is what I was told). I am also curious to see if 2020 models drop even more when the 2021 comes out in a couple months. I am in no hurry to buy so I will get a good deal eventually. Just a lot to think about.

The best time to buy is when you're not in a hurry.

I looked for the last car I bought for about 6 months.
When the right one came about, I jumped on it within 2 hours of the listing and had struck a deal by the next day.
It was WAAAAY under market value.

Patience and knowing what you want is key.

Doesn't always work. My old truck that won't go away took me 6 mo to buy.
1996 F350 crewcab 4x4 460 badass with 8ft Boss plow. Has 97000 miles.
Gets almost 3 mpg , rides worse than any truck I've ever owned and is a ***** to climb in to.
Probably never sell it. LOL

bought a new 4x4 2016 Ram 1500 with the biggest 4 door cab, ( there were two sizes of cabs with 4 doors)
5.7 Hemi
Big Horn edition.

In general we are very happy with this truck. I love the way it drives, tows, the suspension and that hemi is just ridiculous.

The airflow to the backseat could be better and I don’t like how the vehicle refuses to move when the door is open. (There are times when this is useful). Lastly I don’t like the backup camera placement . There are times when you have lumber in the back or what not and have to have the tailgate down and lowering the tailgate renders the camera usless

Back in my day we didn't have no dang backup cameras!

When you backed up, you just stuck yer head out the window and let Jesus take the wheel.

And we walked uphill both ways to school!

Ha! On the refusing to move... I cant tell you how frustrated i am by that.
My driveway is on a slant which makes hitching the trailer a ***** sometimes.
In my old trucks I would get it close, drop the trailer down and then move the truck to slip the ball in.
Always did it with the door open because you gotta jump right back out to latch it.
Not anymore.
