With Halloween fast approaching, thought this might be a fun topic. I generally don't like horror films b/c most of them don't really scare anyone except children. This one was a definite exception, it uses so many basic phobias that at least 1 or more is bound to scare the shit out of everyone. Not shown in the trailer is a cliff scene, acrophobia is covered as well. And this all happens before the Appalachian cannibalistic mutants show-up. The sequel was actually pretty decent as well

Please feel free to add your favs:

I'd go with the Shinning and I love the Thing. However, check out the original The Thing too from the 50s. I think that one is a classic hit.

I would say that Alien would count as a horror, however Aliens is more of a straight up action movie. Very different feels to both of them.
The Thing is awesome, also a fun horror film thats newer, 'Trick 'r Treat'.

Misery has always been a favorite if mine. Kathy Bates is creepy as hell

Totally forgot about that gem, she won an Oscar for the role I believe...and here's the entire film:

Tough to find good footage on this one, Cujo was another gem from the early 80's:

Tough to find good footage on this one, Cujo was another gem from the early 80's:

The master of character development and atmospheric horror. I love Steven King movies... even the bad ones. (i.e. Dreamcatcher)

On the good side of his recent movies I'd have to go with 1408 and The Mist.

Speaking of the 80's.... remember this one?
