The master of character development and atmospheric horror. I love Steven King movies... even the bad ones. (i.e. Dreamcatcher)

On the good side of his recent movies I'd have to go with 1408 and The Mist.

Speaking of the 80's.... remember this one?

I wish they had done a better job with The Stand, that one should have been a major motion picture rather than the crummy made for TV film.

I give honorable mention to 'House of 1000 Corpses.' It's not the best horror movie, but it's worth seeing

Yeah, that was character development gone way too far, but that's part of King's shtick.

"It", Storm of the Century, Rose Red, The Langoliers, The Tommyknockers, Desperation... all great ways to kill a Sunday.

And how did you feel about Shelly Long's performance in The Shining?.

She almost ruined the entire film imho.

Shelley Duvall? Meh. All I ever see when I look at her is Olive Oyl.

The Shining was never really one of my favorites anyway. Truth be told, I actually liked the miniseries more than the original movie. Kubrick's movie left out too much and strayed away from the book in all the wrong places.

I don't think someone could recast a live action Popeye movie better, if they tried to do it again.

The Shining is awesome too. Jack Nicholson is bat shit crazy...and he was pretty good in that movie.

I'd go with the Shinning and I love the Thing. However, check out the original The Thing too from the 50s. I think that one is a classic hit.
Two different spellings, but these are the correct answers. Greatest horror movie ever made.

Horror isnt what it use to be. Shit thats produced now is more ridiculous than anything. See the Paranormal Activity shit for reference. And the fact the 'live' audience commercials make it more absurd, or the people they get are the biggest pussies in the world. Todays 'horror' lacks originality and are recycled boring plots. Nightmare on Elm St. is still a true classic. Add in the Halloween saga, both original and yes the remake, Alien franchice, to virtually anything by Stephen King imo.

Some would classify this as a thriller, but this scene...damn.

If you can watch a horror film with the sound off, and it still has whatever effects(to your own personal tolerances of course), then it's good as a horror film. If you rely on delays, cliches, and music to scare people, it's a shit movie.

That's why I think The Shinning is so good. There aren't those delays or cliches. The music is there, but I think in this case the music amplifies the terror. Kind of like in Jaws.

It's definitely up there on my list. Believable horror is no easy task. Most attempts wind up as simple thrillers, but the Shining is a great example.

If you love the Shining, what do you think about "The Good Son" ?

IMO, this movie gets no respect, but it's legit.
