I think The Good Son is a pretty good flick from what I remember, but it's not horror whatsoever. It's a straight up thriller.

Yeah, it's not Horror. Me = Derailed. My bad.

But then again, some Thrillers are scarier than some of these gore-flicks that are nothing but screaming and fake blood spewing allover previously unemployed bikini models.

Scream
The Haunting (the original)
Carrie
Halloween
Psycho
The Birds

Misery has always been a favorite if mine. Kathy Bates is creepy as hell

One of the then-few instances where I'd read the book, seen the movie and loved both.

If I ever meet Kathy Bates, I'm going to say "I'm your number one fan." :D

Yeah, that was character development gone way too far, but that's part of King's shtick.

"It", Storm of the Century, Rose Red, The Langoliers, The Tommyknockers, Desperation... all great ways to kill a Sunday.
;)

Or this one, and Cujo is pretty good as well.

These are some of my favorites:

Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead (both the original Romero versions, not the remake bullshit).
Pumpkinhead
The Thing (John Carpenter version)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Prince of Darkness

great movie, special effects were really good for a pre-CGI movie

I still watch it from time to time, and can't believe how awesome the effects are for an early 80s movie.

I was just looking for the entire 1982 version of the Thing, and only could find it broken down into parts. But I did find this, which I haven't seen in years...didn't care for the remake.

Although it's not a horror movie, "Delores Claiborne" is another Stephen King movie where Bates is top notch.

ah yes a time when film makers actually had to create these things in real life. CGI makes it way to easy for these guys to just say "**** it"
Ive watched that movie countless times and once with the commentary on. Kurt Russell was actually kind of blown away by the blast when he throws that stick of dynamite at the burning body

CGI really kinda pisses me off, for the most part. Give me the old effects any day.
