I would say, "yes". No cap space, chances are that the Bears do not get Sweat and they certainly wouldn't have resigned him.

Now, it is true that their use of cap space did not have some Super Bowl contender type of difference.

LOL. Wash rinse repeat. I’ve heard ALl of this for years. Nothing has changed. Nothing is better. We’re in the part of the cycle where the Bears make an exhilarating run to a first round playoff exit. And that’ll be enough to appease the masses. But they’re light years from a SB.

I can’t do anything about past years.

Ryan Poles is not here in past years and he’s not responsible for those so all I can do is watch what he’s done and he’s on the right path.

The Cubs did the same thing for years before Theo Epstein and Theo knew he had to tear it down to the studs and a lot of people were pissed off when he did, and I knew it was the right approach and stuck with him and watched it pay off.

I am hopeful they are on that same path, but I am a little concerned if they are taking decisions out of the hands of the GM as that would point toward continuing dysfunction.

I would hope with a new president and the current GM that they would have a new mindset going forward, but we shall see how much autonomy they are given.

But I’m not going to be upset that they are better today than they were last year because of something that happened years ago. That makes no sense.

Whatever you may think of Ryan Poles, he seems to be doing it right with draft capital and has a lot of money to spend as well, I think he gets it.

For all the debating and arguing about Fields, Poles set himself up to evaluate Justin in 2023, and have the option of moving on if need be. He made a very wise decision in that regard.

I think today is going to be interesting. If we do get news of the Bears firing Luke getsy first that means Matt is safe. But if they do fire Matt, things will be super interesting. The only way I see Cousins is if they completely dump Fields and take a QB with #1 to sit for a year. That also makes paying Cousins a long deal demand unfavorable so I'm thinking it won't happen. If they like a later prospect to sit for 2 and Cousins will do a 3 which is a very unlikely scenario...

In retrospect, Poles made 2 quick fix moves. One worked out, and one didn't.
Claypool was a costly pick that we could have really used.
Montez was a better talent than anyone we could have drafted in the 2nd, albeit much more expensive.

1. But Bears would get a 2nd chance given they can trade No 1 for future firsts.

2. But Flus likely makes the playoffs next year if he stays so his seat is hot now but will be quite cool if he stays. Also pretty hard for him yo do roster damage with Poles having final say.
