Is he a gritty, puck moving D-man or something else?

He's gritty enough. Not a great puck mover but not horrible, a good stay at home type who can contribute on offense also (he's a good rounded blueliner). Will block shots. Great addition if we can sign him.

He was who I wanted after Wiz..so I will be thrilled if he gets signed.

Had a great season last year too if I recall.

Only thing about him is he has moved around a lot. Not sure why that is. Sure it's nothing.

From HFBoards:

He's an underrated points producer. Virtually all of his points came at ES last year. He'd be great on your 3rd pairing and he can do spot duty on the 2nd pairing. Great team guy, too. He'll go through stretches where he'll look like one of your best defensemen, and then there will be weeks where you'll wonder how he isn't in the press box. When he's not on, he'll have a lot of "LULZ" moments, but the good definitely outweighs the bad. The guy hasn't been a minus player since before the lockout, so that counts for something.

Ironic that Monty gets sent to Chicago after many thought that move would happen at the deadline. Enjoy him, guys.

Heading To Chicago

Blackhawks acquire Montador from Sabres for future draft pick

Associated Press - 6/29/2011 11:43:01 PM

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired the negotiating rights to defenceman Steve Montador from the Buffalo Sabres for a seventh-round pick in either the 2012 or 2013 draft.

The deal was announced Wednesday night.

The 31-year-old Montador had a career-high 21 assists and 26 points and led the Sabres with a career-best plus-16 rating in 73 games last season.

A Vancouver native, Montador has 28 goals, 89 assists and 762 penalty minutes over parts of nine seasons with the Calgary Flames (2001-06), Florida Panthers (2005-08), Anaheim Ducks (2008-09), Boston Bruins (2009) and Sabres (2009-11).

Montador is set to become an unrestricted free agent on Friday.

I like the plus 16 part on a mediocre team like Buffalo. Nice. Hope we can sign him!

I like this, not many options really out there to be honest on the back end. Wiz is gonna get paid, way more than I think he's worth...but that's 2011 free agency. This is what I like to see...we don't need another superstar back there.

Leaves lots of money to fill those forward positions.

Hope it gets done.

Great move. Lock him up and we can work on getting a 2nd line center, a power forward and some gritty 4th liners. One less worry.

I like the move. I like when the Hawks have the ability to make the moves they want to build a team. Last summer, Stan had to take back the players that teams would give up instead of getting pieces that fit the puzzle. Fun times for everyone!

It's a decent start. He's a willing combatant. So he's got that going for him...which is nice.

The +/- is positive also.

Don't bother criticizing me now.... because I will quote and destroy you after you see how bad he is next season. Bad move, Stan.

Stu, as God is my witness, if you start trolling in my thread I will rip your intestines out of your asshole and wear them like Isadora Duncan's scarves.

As long as he buckles down and continues to block shots like he has his entire career then the little that the Hawks are probably spending on him isn't going to be a big deal. He isn't going to be slotted higher than the 5/6 spot on this club. He instantly is an upgrade over any other player we had in that position the last few years. Want Walker back?

Sign Campoli and our top blueline

Keith/Seabs/Leddy/Hammer/Campoli/Montadore? That's not horrible. Hammer def has to have a better season and Leddy has to continue what he showed. But this is a solid top 6 on paper at least.

And you were WRONG about Campoli when you said pretty much the same thing. Want us to bring that thread back up for you Stu boy?

YOURE GONNA BE SORRY

Dude...his name is Montador. That sounds like a Highlander slash Viking.

The only issue is he isn't the best skater (probably why he isn't going to get much more than a 1.5 deal) and he isn't a ginger...which the team still needs to address. Because once again to lift the cup you have to have at least one ginger on the active roster. ITS AN NHL FACT JACK!!!!

He isn't that bad Stu. For a 5/6 blue liner you really can't ask for anyone better. I mean they all can't be John Scotts.

P.S. Rangers suck and Richards is going to Buffalo now because even he knows that the Rangers suck!!!! Yah I changed my prediction to the Sabres.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind seeing a change up though.

Keith-Hammer

Seabs-Leddy

Montador-Campoli

Obviously Keith and Seabs have been together for most of their time, but you can't say enough about Leddy, if he keeps playing the way he was he will be a top 15 D-man in no time. The guy started up with the big club, got sent down and then in January was thrown back in playing about 12 minutes a night. To play as solid as he did considering the circumstances is impressive. Can't wait to see the numbers and minutes he'll have next year.
