Is it just me or is that a little rich? Or is this symptomatic of the inflated salaries we're seeing?

I'm somewhat disappointed we decided not to take a shot at Wiz. Either way, Montador is a solid pick-up, probably not first on my list, or second, or even third... but certainly not last. Just somewhere in between, probably similar to if we would have picked up Hejda, only I like Montador a bit better.

$11M for 4 years sounds a bit steep, I wouldn't be to excited if a deal like that were pulled off, but I suppose I couldn't complain too much either. I'm just sitting on the fence with this whole thing.

It's all over twitter...

#NHL news. Steve Montador agreeing to terms with #Blackhawks. Word is 11M over 4 yrs.

What bothers me about this is - How much does Campoli expect to get, especially for this signing?

$2.75M is a bit much for Montador, if you ask me. IF he puts up the numbers of last year, which are eerily similar to Campbell (73 GP, 5 G, 21 A, 26 P, +16, 83 PIM) then it actually will be somewhat worth it.

Wiz is looking for 5-5.5 mil per year.

Not a chance.

Everyone is getting over paid. THis contract could be a steal or bad. Depends on how Montedor plays. He's also nto really a 5 or 6 D man. On this team maybe, but most NHL teams he's 3-4.

[sup]WTF? Just got back from lunch and saw this. Seriously? $2.75 mil per for freakin' Montador on a 3rd line? Oh, brother. I just assumed he'd want to go to a contender and wasn't thinking the Hawks would pay him more than 2.3 mil MAX. Damn, hope he earns that $500K overpayment.[/sup]

I was going to say that....

But now I wonder what Campoli will sign for now that this is going on? I'd say he gets no more than $2.5M per year and thats being very generous.

Depending on the term I would take him for that, anymore and I'd say no. Either way it doesn't matter now, I'm fine with this move but the $$ is a bit much.

If keith and Seabrook come back in form the Hawks will probably have one of the best, if not the best, blue line in the NHL. Not even a question.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I agree with RK. Wiz may be the prototypical D-man to fill every need we have on the back end, but the hole for a 2nd or 3rd line (erring towards 2nd line) Center was even more of a gaping hole--think Huet's 5-hole or Goatse.cx. I'd rather spend money there. Plus, Wiz making Keith money is an overpayment as well.

As for Montador, I can live with 4 years, but I think he's about 500k overpaid.

Steve Montador has never been a 3/4 defenseman on any NHL team he's played on. Well actually that's not entirely true, he was 4th in minutes for the Sabres last year (barely)... that was the only year. Other than that he's been more of a reserve/bottom defenseman. If Steve Montador is playing 3/4th for you, your defense blows.

Never on Anaheim, Florida, Calgary, or Boston did he ever play top 4 minutes... hell most of those teams he played less than top 6 minutes.

This is not a knock on him at all, he's slotted exactly where he should be, 5/6 D-man, 12-14 minutes a night. Anymore than that and the Hawks are fooling themselves.

I could imagine. People bitched about Seabrook getting his contract. He's a far better D man that wiz will ever be and he'd be making more money! I wouldnt go more than 4 for wiz. Far too injury prone.

I wasn't going by minutes, more pairing. We'll see how it goes. That contract is very tradeable so no big deal either way.

I'll stick to the Hawks having one of if not the best blue line in the NHL.

Keith-Seabs

Leddy-Hjarlmarsson

Campoli-Montedor

Your 3-6 can rotate...

As mentioned, everyone is getting overpaid, look at Kopy 12 mil for 4 years, thats overpaying. So 2.75 is not so bad.

So is that 11 mil for 4 years confirmed or still the rumor?

This is a little too much. But with the lack of big UFA's on D it makes sense. Wiz is going to get like 6 mil a year now. Hell if he hits the open market he could start a bidding war. He will be more overpaid than Campbell was. Glad the Hawks didn't go for him.

must still be a rumor cause I do not see it on TSN. and to me TSN is a better source then NHL.com

Yeah this is as close as I've seen:

News: Montador is believed to be nearing a four-year, $11 million deal with Chicago, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet.ca reports. (Thu Jun 30)
