When are we going to develop that starter goalie that we can count on season after season? This chasing of the goalies is really getting old. What I mean by that is I am not sure Corey is THAT goalie. Backup sure but the go to guy for most games??? While Emery has been our blessing as of late is he the guy that we want to resign?

In addition to all of this I have to say that the call up in Rockford from the ECHL is really something. Could he be the guy? He is 26 years old with backup experience already in the show. He backed up Niemi last season for 12-13 games and the season before he backed up a handful of games with Philly. While he hasn't actually played in the NHL yet that I am aware of, I have to wonder how he would perform given the opportunity. Could he be the future? I am talking about Carter Hutton.

Parity in goal tending is high in the game, not worried about that half as much as playing good defense. I hate to keep parroting this, but more often than not, the team makes the goalie.

For the most part a goalie is only as good as the team in front of him.

There are exceptions... Roy/Hasek/Lundqvist to name a few.

I've been told the Ducks are looking at him...

Rankings will easily drop after the first 5 picks, and after John Gibson from last year whom they do like, the Ducks aren't very fond of what is on the roster and minors presently in terms of goaltending.

We seriously need to consider him if any other teams are, especially with whats on our roster as it is...

I'd add Quick to that list, and I generally agree....however, there are exceptions in the OTHER direction, and after a good start to this year, Corey has repeating terrible mechanical mistakes at an alarming rate. I feel REALLY uncomfortable if I hear he's playing at this point.

I just don't see anything solid in our pipeline...no pun intended.

Have you followed Carter Hutton in Rockford since his callup in Dec.? He also signed a Blackhawk NHL contract about two weeks ago.

Oh yeah, quite familar with Hutton and he might work out as a late bloomer, but he's 26 already and never had a shot yet. I was thinking of guys we're bringing along.

If a goalie hasn't played in the NHL by the time they are 25-26, there's usually a reason. There are exceptions, but you don't typically find the "goalie of the future" in somebody's late 20s.

Let me ask. Does anyone think he has potential to bouce back ala Jimmy Howard after his "sophmore slump" or is the general feeling he's on the Steve Mason path to obscurity? If you're the GM is it worth it to find out? Or is the window for the Cup too precious to play that game and the better path is to target a free agent(who's even going to be out there this year?--forgive my lack of research) or explore trade options? food for thought/discussion

To me, seems like we almost have to let him try to rebound from this and just hope for the best. Based how many years of seasoning we have invested in Crow, seems like it would be a real shame to have to cut bait now....

Not so sure that I agree with the late bloomer comment. Corey will be 28 this season.

i dont get the hate for late bloomer/journeyman goalies. Big-T from the official boards didnt like em either

Niemi, Crawford, Thomas are three very recent/current examples coming to mind. Crawford will battle through his sophomore slump. Waite is a good goalie coach Craw isnt mentally weak like Lou he just put too much pressure on himself for the contract and living upto last year. He'll be fine, i think.

most goalies hit their stride at 25-26. Goalies are the latest to develop of all players.

...to do what, shit the bed again and again?

Maybe to steal a win like tonight? YOu know they gave up on Thomas, and well, he just won the Cup.

Rex said it correctly. Many goalies hit strides far later as it takes year to develop.

RE: last night (as this plays into the conversation)

When the **** is Q going to learn that this is not 1960 and you shouldn't play your goalie 4, 5, 6 games in a row without a rest...no matter how 'hot' he is 'right now'??????

There is a very simple formula that would keep controversies away and if he doesn't start following it, it won't matter if we have fucking Lundqvist backed up by Quick or Penne next year! Pick a starter and play him about three games, then give the back one game. Rinse, repeat. It's not fucking rocket science. Learn that formula or be doomed to continue the goalie situation we have had since Q got here.

Later bloomer via NHL. They never really gave him his shot. Something always came first, IE Huet, Niemi, Turco.......
