RE: last night (as this plays into the conversation)

When the **** is Q going to learn that this is not 1960 and you shouldn't play your goalie 4, 5, 6 games in a row without a rest...no matter how 'hot' he is 'right now'??????

There is a very simple formula that would keep controversies away and if he doesn't start following it, it won't matter if we have fucking Lundqvist backed up by Quick or Penne next year! Pick a starter and play him about three games, then give the back one game. Rinse, repeat. It's not fucking rocket science. Learn that formula or be doomed to continue the goalie situation we have had since Q got here.

Only flaw in your theory is I think Quick played most of the Kings early games without a rest.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I think what Q needs to do next year is guage the Team D. Once the D starts taking shifts off, let about 2-3 goals in, the swap goalies. Ride for about 3-4 games, which is about the time it takes for the D to get comfortable with them in net: Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

Anyone else wonder why Corey was not one of the stars last night?

Quick = 2.00 GAA .929 save % 29-19-11

Bernier = 2.35 GAA .912 save % 4-6-1

Kings offense = 2.20 GPG (29th)

The Kings' problems are not in the crease.

How many times was he really tested? Hawks carried the play almost the entire time he was in the net. I can only recall a couple tough saves he made.

Eh, true enough. I didn't even consider the shootout to be honest.

Rockford ends road trip with a win over San Antonio

San Antonio, Tex.- After a quick stint with the Chicago Blackhawks, it didn’t take Carter Hutton long to get back into his rhythm with the Rockford IceHogs. The goalie helped propel Rockford to a 3-0 win over the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday, ending the team’s two-game losing streak.

Hutton made 26 saves to earn his third shutout of the season while Rockford outshot their counterparts 41-26.

Watching the first half of the season and the second half is like watching two totally different teams.

Just sayin'

Ah yes.................... Skate. I did not think of that. Good point.

Next season we will be without the assistance of Shannon. She ran the clock and kept score along with handling on ice issues.

She has taken a job with the Blackhawks!

most goalies hit their stride at 25-26. Goalies are the latest to develop of all players.

Agree and it doesn't help when there is rarely space for them at the NHL level. Goalies can also play out longer careers which doesn't help those waiting in the wings. Chances of making the NHL as a goalkeeper are extremely low. If you want your kid playing in the NHL someday don't buy them goalie pads.

For the most part a goalie is only as good as the team in front of him.

There are exceptions... Roy/Hasek/Lundqvist to name a few.

not sure if i agree with that totally. Goalies do more than just stop pucks back there. Communicating with the team infront of them is also a key roll for a goalie (and there are a lot of examples of goalies who are good at this and those who are not) Some actually start the play out of the defensive zone. One guy who I would add to the list of exceptions is Ron Hextal. May not have won a cup but he revolutionized the game with some of his puck playing abilities and how he communicated with the team infront of him....and how he communicated with the opposition. Communication was something else Broduer has always been good at (yah yah I know half the world have their own opinion on Marty).

Mental aspect and communication aspects of the goalie position are always downplayed or placed on a lower level of importance over the technical side. And that's why I actually disagree about their being goalie parity in the league. There never has been and there never will be. There are a number of different styles of goalies in the league technically and there are certainly a lot of different mind set goalies in the league. Some goalies who carry themselves well and some who don't. Some who communicate well with their own team and some who don't. Some who communicate with the opposition in ways that help their team or do so in ways that are detrimental. You can't take the individual character out of a player of any position esp the goalkeeping one and say there is parity btw them all. That's just not logical or correct.

no shit. 12-15 forwards each team

6-8 defensemen each team

2 goalies.

You would have an argument if the numbers across all levels weren't the same. It is no more difficult to make the show as a goalie, than it is any other position. There's a reason goalies get discounts and play for free, pretty much without exception, throughout youth hockey.

I never got to play a single free game until Pick up. Plus Goalie Equipment is 3x the cost of anyone elses equipment.

It is more expensive, that is true. But it is also easier to find goalie equipment on clearance. Also, how often do you realistically have to replace your goalie gear? I think that forward equipment tends to break down much quicker, especially sticks, skates, and gloves. When did you start playing goalie? Your parents didn't get a discount for your bill? It works the same way in men's league, where the goalie plays free or pays like half what everyone else pays.

Regardless, that's all just a tangent on the difficulty of making the NHL as a goalie. I don't see it as any different. The number of openings to guys trying out is no different than forwards and defense. Probably better odds most of the time.

not in Canada, Growing up, goalies pay the same as everyone else.

Also, goalie equipment needs to be replaced a lot, or at least repaired. I just had my blocker repaired again recently, cost $80

got my pads restrapped and resewen last summer, $100. My pads have been due for replacement for years, but a new pair of pads is the same price as almost all of the equipment a forward uses.

Also, goalie sticks break as well.
