I think it is safe to say Emery has won the goaltender job for a couple weeks
I think it's safe to say he never really lost it after his nice string of games earlier in the year.
4 posts helped out Emery.
One last thing about this win- Detroit threw a lot of bodies at Emery's crease. Their game plan was clear from the opening few minutes- get the puck deep and pressure Emery. There were constant crowds and Emery got bumped a few times.
What I liked from the Hawks and something that has been completely absent all year was the push back. After whistle scrums are one thing, but you could see that the Hawks were really the aggressors in the ones today. They weren't taking shit and on many occasions, they were flat out giving it without even thinking. Keith took 2 minutes in one such pile, but not before he got his licks in.
Whether it's having the right mix of guys in the lineup (mayers, bollig, shaw, hayes, bickell) or just the guys finally getting the message to stop being pussies... I don't know. I like it though.
My thoughts on the game...
Happy to escape with two points. I thought there were a few players who just didn't cut it tonight.
Olsen needs a break. He is looking gassed out there and is repeatedly getting beaten wide. I would love for Hjalmarsson to come back so Olsen can go back to the AHL and get the time needed down there. He has a bright future with his size and skill. His feet have gotten a little heavy lately.
Brunette looked gassed today as well...which isn't good at all for Brunette. Could be because his minutes have gone up greatly with Kane/Hossa but I still like that line and things are happening because of Kane/Hossa even strength.
Stalberg's best shift of the night was hist first where he worked hard, drew a penalty, and the Hawks scored. After that it seemed like Stalberg didn't have his wheels and didn't use them to his advantage.
I thought Oduya had a rollercoaster night. Some bad turnovers but some solid plays as well.
All and all it is two points and a nice game by Emery. Wings probably should have taken the game but I'm sure the Blackhawks have lost one along the way that they deserved to win.
Hawks have some road confidence back and the Blues game should be a good one.
3-0-2 against Detroit this season.
*This team is too garbage ass to ever beat a team like Detroit.
Kane has re-emerged in grand fashion. It's because of him that we have a chance to sweep a 3-game road trip against Ottawa, Detroit, and St. Louis. One even matchup and two upsets if we beat the Blues.
