What is the difference in making a trade to make a trade and making a trade to shake things up?

A GM making a trade for the sake of making a trade just to do it because of pressure from the media, fans etc is ALOT different than making a trade to shake things up within the team. There is always a reason that a trade is made: improve specific position, teams too young so add a veteran, lockeroom needs a change psychologically so a trade is made to shake things up....its a specific reason to make a trade....which is 100% than trading just to make a trade which has no reasons at all. Once again something that the meatball fans created.

Maybe come to conclusion that the Hawks "core" is just overrated.

IMOP, the "core" is shrinking. As of now, the only guys that should be not on the block are Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa and Seabrook. Actually, that list wouldnt even include Hossa but he's untradable now, given his condition. I'd trade anybody else to get a goalie in here that is playoff quality...I dont mean dump Crawford, I'd just like him in smaller portions as in 15-20 games a year. I'd like a top 6 power forward thats not afraid to get his nose dirty in front of the net and/or dman that will hit and clear the front of our net. This team has the resources to get this done...Im just not sure they have the GM to do it.

I'd cut it to Toews and Seabrook.

Then what would you trade, say, Patrick Kane for?

Kane? Im more surprised that he would deal Sharp. An affordable 2-way player that plays both STs and more importantly....other than Toews, the only reliable finisher on this team. There's too many guys here trying to look pretty....make that flashy pass, do that fancy open ice move. Sharp shoots the puck and he scores goals. That's something thats not only difficult to replace difficult to afford as well.

Tyler Myers?

I don't know. I wouldn't be actively shopping him.

But if someone called, I'd listen. That's all.

I understand what you're saying when you would say that you'd listen, but Kane is even more untouchable now as he is the one being stripped into the 2C spot.

Also, I figure you were just throwing a name out there, but Myers is getting a huge raise starting next year (5.5) and then two top 6 holes would need to be filled with the net $800k surplus.

I wouldn't want to trade Kane if only because I love watching him play. Whether or not you could get someone that would help this team more is debatable but I'm pretty sure you couldn't net a return that is more entertaining to watch. As a fan, that means a lot to me.

And yeah, Myers was just a name and I'm aware of his fresh ink. I just tried to think of a big d-man who isn't Weber or Chara that could possibly be had. Having 3 d-men making north of 5 mil and Meatball making over 3 would be real hard to make work.

What's more interesting than my casual opinion of who's untouchable is who do you guys think has more value on the trade market- Sharp or Kane?

Knee jerk response for me is Kane, but Sharp and his 30 goals and his stronger defensive game could really be huge for someone.

I think it'd have to be Kane, just because of his age. You could easily argue that Kane's best years are still ahead of him.

But if that wasn't in the argument, I think I'd lean toward Sharp, too.

he will peak right at the end of his contract spilling into his new contract with the sabres.
