Well now ... that was an interesting result... and basically muddies up everything...

Which is why I love the NHL.

What a great win. Much needed! I didn't think the hawks had it in them to win in a shootout. Crawford played pretty good. Scored on the best defensive team in the league. Pretty awesome.

Hammer leaving with an undisclosed injury is not good news.

Just got home.

WOW.

First period was brutal. The Blues just owned every bit of the ice. 2nd and most definitely the 3rd were much better obviously. Crawford was a rock and it was awesome to see him blank that shootout for the W. Holy smokes did he want that.

Some dudes had good a good night blah blah blah .... but more than anything, Andrew Shaw was a game changer. I saw him in person for the first time last Tuesday and that just wasn't a very good game by anyone (plus I was hammered and too close to the ice). Tonight though, he stood out like crazy. My goodness, he was effective. He brought it every shift and seemed to be rewarded with a lot of ice time in the 3rd. The best thing was, the Blues didn't really haven an answer to him. Nobody cleaned him out or took him off his game. Everytime he was on the ice, he was doing what he wanted to do against a very tough team. HUGELY impressive.

Some bad (the PP, the effort in the 1st), some good (Crawford the reliever, Kane, Hossa) and one personal revelation for me. Shaw is more than the scrappy shithead that flops and falls a lot.

Halak definitely looks human tonight.

Without a doubt.

More than one occasion he was checking his back after a save and he gave up a lot of spare change all night.

Still made a dandy (in the 2nd?... can't remember) and was strong for the most part... but yeah, he was back on planet earth tonight. Hawks to their credit, did bring it to his crease though. That helps. Hope they remember that.

Thank god.

^^^ I actually thought Shaw was one of those players that had an up and down game. Overall he probably did more good than bad but that 3rd goal rests pretty big on Shaw's shoulders as that is a turnover that can't happen. Shaw did do a great job on the screen for the Seabrook goal and definitely had some nice hits in the 3rd period. I thought a lot of guys had up and down games for the Blackhawks. Oduya and Hjalmarsson can be singled out for goals against. Olsen also had some bad turnovers at points.

Everything definitely turned around after the first period. Stalberg had a great game, drew 2 penalties, used his speed, had some hits and got a goal from going hard to the net. Brunette had some nice screens and buried one. Seabrook probably played his most physical game of the year and it paid off. Hossa, Sharp, and Kane all played really well. I liked the timing of the Bollig (even though he got an instigator) and Mayers fights. Powerplay was getting great screens by Brunette, Shaw, and Mayers. PP was also a big reason why the Hawks had 46 shots against a solid defense like the Blues...finally used the umbrella and let some rip from the points ON NET. I thought Keith also had a nice game and had an active stick all night.

Looks like it is Crawford's crease to lose...again. I thought the Blackhawks hung Emery out to dry in the first there but good to see Crawford cease the opportunity and grab two big points for the team.

Blackhawks play another hot team and hot goalie on Friday. If they match the physical tone set by the Stars and get some shots on net with traffic...I like their chances.

They both suck.

Exactly.

How'd you like to be Q and have to choose between these two. He might as well flip a coin. Its anybody's guess which one is gonna show up. The way he
plays them both in long stretches...you KNOW he's hoping one guy will step up and grab the job. I just dont see it with these two, he may have to mix and match the rest of the year.

this wasn't the first we've seen the umbrella but its probably the first we've seen point shots steadily get through and to the net. credit oduya and give keith some because earlier in the year, he couldn't find the net with a map. seabrook has always been the best point cannon... hopefully he gets used more.

that 3rd blues goal was just a complete mess. hawks looked like confused kids on that play. I didn't have the benefit of seeing replay but if that one is on shaw ill take it. I just can't get over the fearlessness of that kid. on tv he looks like a mess that gets dirty goals and isn't strong on his feet. in person he's kind of the definition of an "energy guy" in the best way. playing the way he did against the blues is no easy task.

I can understand the idea of coming to your teammates being a noble endeavor, but the presence of that instigator rule means that you can't always have that reaction. If Bollig does that in the playoffs and the Hawks lose a game because of an ensuing PP goal, then it's not so noble--it's stupid.

I hate the instigator rule, as I'm sure many others do. But if it's there, you've got to be a bit smarter about picking your spots. That was a pretty hard hit on Mayers by Reeves but I didn't see anything illegal about it--just a good, hard hit. Maybe you Reeves gets hung out to dry by a bad pass and you can run his ass--legally--later in the game. But being so quick to drop the gloves isn't always the best thing.

Although I know that's trying to change a mindset that's persisted for almost 90 years.

Got a drinking game for ya during the next Hawks' game. Every time Keith misses the net, take a shot. Have an ambulance on standby, you'll need it. That's the biggest disappointment, for me, in Keith's game of late. He can't seem to find the net anymore. I hope he finds that in the postseason, as he did last year.

It was nice to see the PP come through eventually, but I really think the Hawks could've BURIED the Blues last night under an avalanche of PP goals. The game started to feel like a Hawks/Nucks postseason game, where Vancouver goes into goon mode and the Hawks respond by lighting them up on the power play. That didn't happen last night, and it took a shootout to get the 2nd point.

Just ride the hot hand. After the last two periods + OT + shootout, it's Crawford. Start him til he makes you play Emery again. It's all he can do right now.

If the Hawks can fix the power play and be more consistent, then I think they'd have a good shot at a deep run.

Haven't done either one of those things in 70 games, though.
