I am not a big Bruce Springsteen fan. But watch the movie/video Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born to Run and you will appreciate him. Or, listen to anyone of his better albums. I don't know what the big Springsteen fans consider his best but Nebraska, Darkness on the Edge of Town, Born to Run and The River are pretty good albums. Many would consider Springsteen second to only Bob Dylan as the most influential song writers in modern rock.
I get the "I don't like/appricate ________". Thanks to a fraternity brother I can't listen to Led Zeppelin. I may not appreciate them but they aren't "overrated" or bad and they don't suck, either. The same can be said for Clapton; his work with Cream and Derek and the Dominos assures that he is not overrated, or bad or suck. The Beatles chose him to play the lead on While my Guitar Gently Weeps (allegedly on the first take). I'm sure John, Paul, George and Ringo went out and hired the first hack they could find for the White Album.
Like the Eagles bands may be over-commercialized. Some are victims of their own egos (see the Eagles) and have long over-stayed their radio (such that it is anymore) welcome. But, overrated? I don't think that is the right term. And certainly "bad" or its synonyms aren't accurate either. Just because you don't appreciate the music or like the artist doesn't make them "suck". In fact, in most cases it just shows ignorance.
I've also never understand why there is so much vitriol when it comes to personal taste. Who gives a **** what you like or don't like and why do you care what someone else likes? Why cast aspersions?
Springsteen brings it live. I've only seen him once and I doubt I'll rush back but you won't regret seeing him. You'll know a lot of songs and the band is super-tight and very, very talented.
