Ryan Pace was quoted as saying that a team should be built through the draft. Consider the following and rate Pace's credibility

The 1985 Chicago Bears had 10 first round draft choices on the roster chosen by the Bears: Payton, Hampton, Al Harris, Otis Wilson, Van Horne, McMahon, Covert, Gault. Marshall, and Perry.

The 2021 Bears have two (2) players the team has drafted in the first round: Smith and Fields.

Can we stop bringing up the 85 bears as if they’re relevant anymore?

Compare the past few champions to make the topic more relevant.

Bottom line is you need a top tier QB. That’s where the conversation starts and ends. Hopefully Fields is that guy.

Can people stop saying this???? You're on a Chicago Bears message board. It's gonna get brought up from time to time whether you like it or not.

No. It’s literally not relevant when you’re discussing what it takes to win a championship in today’s NFL.

The game has changed. You can’t win a championship on defense and a shitty QB anymore.

Ponzi Pace...

A lot of guys need a breakout year for this team to be a contender.

Gabriel, Kmet, Jenkins, Monty, Miller, Fields...because if they don't too many guys on the other side of the ball will be too old.

Who cares what round they were drafted in? That’s a stupid comparison..

1985 Bears was a dynasty in the making. And no salary cap to deal with? lol. what chokers they were, no thanks!

D were also allowed free reign? No helmet shot penalties/fines/suspensions. They could not take advantage of all those pieces falling into place and became just your typical one and done team.

yep. The posters who rely on this are the same ones that suffer from OTIRHES(our team isn’t ranked high enough syndrome).

also tired of the pace blowers who put so much emphasis on the middle round value picks who became just guys, while you flush top 10 franchise changing draft picks down the toilet

2018 Bears had 6 of their own 1st round picks. Fuller, Trubisky, Smith, Floyd, Kyle Long, and Kevin White.

How often do 1st rounders become perennial franchise players? Overall, it’s hardly debatable that pace is above average drafter. He’s missed on some top 10 picks, he hasn’t had a full deck of them, but overall, out of all the negatives you can point to regarding pace, drafting is not one of them

Yeah, I understand this. I’m talking about bringing up the 85 Bears for whatever reason. It’s gonna happen on a Bears message board.

It is 100% irrelevant in this case.

They didn’t even have true free agency till 1993. Anything about roster building before that is irrelevant.

Most of those 1st round picks couldn’t leave like they can now.
