Any chance the Bulls can acquire OJ Mayo at the trade deadline?

Chris Sheridan (2:15 PM)

I continue to hear that the guy the Bulls have their sights on is J.R. Smith of the Nuggets. Ironically, they gave him away to Denver for Howard Eisley and two second-round picks in the summer of 2006.

i'd be fine with him on the bench. the bulls need bench scoring. I wouldn't give up watson, korver, nor brewer to get him though. i dont see denver wanting any of those guys either. they have contracts, and they're in rebuilding mode. i wouldn't give up kt nor asik to get him. we need them until noah comes back. Why give up assets for a guy you can sign in the off season. Since the only guys we can really afford to trade/are tradeable are bogans(not really) jj and scal. I can't see this deal going through.

Chris Sheridan doesn't even know what he's talking about when he writes about the Knicks, I doubt he has any inside information about the Bulls.

The most appealing thing about J.R. Smith is his expiring contract.

JR Smith is better than any guard not named Rose on this team...don't know why you have such a long list of players you wouldn't give up for him. And since win was C.J. Watson not tradeable? When did that happen???

Houf, stop overrating Smith. Arron Affalo is a much better player than he is.

Having an amazing skillset in itself doesn't mean you are a better player than 'player B' who is much less skilled. Smith takes horrific shots and dribbles into bad situations.

I'll take Ronnie Brewer in a heartbeat over Smith. At least Brewer knows his limitations and works within himself. Smith is a ballhog and if it wasn't for his expiring contract, I would barely bat an eye at him.

You telling me not to overrate/underrate anybody is laughable...that said, Affalo wasn't brought up, and he is not a MUCH better player than Smith. Stop the madness.

This from the guy who said McGrady was better than Smith...your television is obviously very special and is also lying to you...

I see that you offer nothing of substance to argue any of my claims.

JR Smith is an immensely talented basketball player. Too bad isn't as smart as he needs to be. He's a guy that is all about his highlights and not much else.

He'll get you a couple of highlight dunks and some big shots, but the rest of the time he's on the court, he does little else, other than standing around and calling for the ball. He makes bad choices when left in the game too long, he doesn't play within the offense most of the time and he has a VERY low BBall IQ.

You can argue his talent, but it's a reason why he's constantly in George Karl's doghouse.

And that is why players are moved all the time...he is not an old veteran. He is 25. He is low risk and may again be a very important part of a good team given the chance. Mayo is too costly, and some of the other choices seem underwhelming to most fans, though I find Courtney Lee intriguing. You are not going to get a good shooting guard for nothing, and I don't think the Bulls are interested in breaking up their core for at best, decent players. JR may be the best you can get for what the Bulls want to give up, so I have no problem with it.

His expiring contract means he would be a tryout for now. If he fits, he may stay for an extension. If not, then all that is lost is cap space...and probably a more definitive idea of what is needed to compliment Rose's abilities. Nothing wrong with that...

Brewer's limitations are the reason the Bulls are looking for a player with more skill. You would take Brewer over Smith and McGrady over Smith, thank goodness the Bulls don't listen to you...

If they like Smith fine, if they don't fine. The argument can go either way. But you admitted Smith's amazing skillset was evident because you brought it up. As I stated, Affalo wasn't brought up in the argument. Melo is a better player than Smith, but he ain't in this argument.

You aren't willing to trade Taj for Curry, you think Brewer and McGrady are better players than Smith...all of which are asinine claims. But I don't bring any substance? C'mon son...

affallo may be a better fit than smith. he's having a good year in terms of shooting. i'd rather have affallo, but he doesn't have that explosive offensive ability that smith does. Sadly i'm not sure we have the shots for smith on our team unless he's the 6th man.

It depends on what you give up. Affallo is a better fit for Denver too. Which is why I don't see them giving him up right now. If Watson goes...and Bogans is pushed back, you are looking at 8 or 9 shots right there available. Not far from the 10 per game he takes in Denver now. The playing time will be there because Smith can play both guard positions and he can even play small forward. Affallo is very, very efficient offensively, like Anthony Morrow or Kevin Martin in that area...I just think that Smith is more dynamic and has more skills to help the team. He would have to buy in...but it could be a low risk/high reward situation...

if you give up cj you need a back up pg in return. jr smith as our back up pg sounds dreadful.

the long list of guards are guards that denver don't want. if they're rebuilding they dont want to take back korver's 3 years 5 million. same with brewer. you also have to understand they have affallo on the roster, and i dont think he's leaving it next year. If he doesn't leave, you don't pay 5 million for a back up guard/forward. If he is leaving, we were dupes to get smith instead of affallo. affallo is much better fit.

yeah we basically agree. i dont see affallo leaving denver. so i dont think those other guys are people denver wants. we dont have the assets to make this deal go through. his contracts for 5-6 million. to make salaries match we have to give one of those guys up.
