Bulls meet with Caron Butler
By Nick Friedell, ESPNChicago.com
December 5th, 2011 4:01pm ET

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- In their search to find an upgrade at shooting guard, the Chicago Bulls met with free agent Caron Butler on Monday.

Butler, 31, has averaged almost 17 points a game throughout his career, but missed most of last season with the Dallas Mavericks after rupturing a tendon in his right knee on Jan. 1. The Mavs' starting small forward at the beginning of last season, Butler was emerging as their second-leading scorer while splitting time with Shawn Marion.

"That went great," Butler tweeted after his meeting with Bulls personnel. "Now headed to the west ..."

A large black stretch limousine was waiting in the Berto Center parking lot to whisk Butler off to his next destination. A source told ESPNDallas' Jeff Caplan that Butler will meet with at least four teams including the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night, San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, New Jersey Nets on Wednesday and possibly the Detroit Pistons on Thursday

The source said that those teams understand that Butler is not interested in a one-year contract, the length favored by the Mavs to bring back the nine-year veteran.

"There's no secret that he's a hell of a player," Bulls center Joakim Noah said on Monday. "I don't know how he is health-wise, but there's no question that he's definitely a great player."

Butler is a native of Racine, Wis., and has spent a portion of his summer working out in Chicago. The 10th overall pick of the 2002 draft, Butler shot a career-best 43.1 percent from three-point range last season.

The Wade meeting went great too didnt it?

Hopefully he takes less and signs with us. I wont get excited yet. Hopefully no one signs with Heat and has some self respect.

I think the Bulls may look to sign or trade for someone else before they offer anything to Butler.

They have like 10 guys on their radar

Well, let's just hope that it honestly went well. Not some mirage of a meeting like the one with Wade.

Not when the Bulls FO & his agent have been in contact for 5 days. This was just a quick meet & greet. We are high on his list & he said it went great, so I'm inclined to believe we have a realistic shot of getting him.

The Clips may offer more or may not. They could be losing DeAndre Jordan to FA, so they could keep their offer low, to try & match the offers for Jordan. Nets will throw money at him & the Spurs will use the same pitch we did, but we have the leg up. We got this guy called Derrick Rose.
:yeah:

The Clippers have the best front office personnel in the league. They also have the most annoying owner and worst team reputation in all of American Pro Sports. One meeting might be awesome, the next might be an absolute nightmare! But I wouldn't blame Caron for signing with the Clips, they can use and pay him better than we can. It's a total compromise for him to sign here for a chance at winning another ring.

Well, if he decides LAC is his new home.....that's not our teams loss, it's his. They won't be contending for an NBA title this season. It's up to you Caron. We hope you make the right choice. :smoke:
(Whether it's Butler, Richardson or Jamal Crawford)

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic after all our FA failures up to this point (minus last season), but I think we're getting the shaft and no one will take that paycut to sign with us. That's really their loss, but I think we're looking at another season of Keith Bogans.

That being said, I'll take Butler, Richardson, Crawford, even Shannon Brown in a heartbeat.
