I think Zach Zaidman's read on this situation is correct...instead of signing Wade, the Bulls will trade Bobby Portis to Cleveland for Kevin Love, freeing up Cavs cap space to sign Dwayne Wade.

Seems plausible.

Why the **** would bulls want love? He sucks now. Overpaid max player. I'd rather have portis.

With what cap space will the Bulls absorb Love's contract with after the Rondo signing?

Why Love? A defensive liability. It showed in playoffs.

Latest news, the Bulls are NOT going to talk with Dwayne Wade in New York, per ESPN-Chicago Radio. Whew.

Edit: Wade needs to sign onto the GS gravy train.

What shitty reporting. One minute I see the Bulls are meeting with him in NY, the next they aren't. A day or two ago it was said he wouldn't meet with them, now he supposedly is. Shits stupid.

That's all that the Bulls need. Portis is a kid with a bright future and who has a rookie contract. As dumb as Gar/Pax are, they won't do a deal like this. The Bulls are dead meat for the foreseeable future and no quick fixes are on the horizon. In two years at most, Rondo will be gone. They only signed him, probably, because they didn't want to become the Philly 76ers and lose the Bulls suckers going to their games. They will have in all likelihood two lottery picks next season and maybe more picks if they indeed trade Butler, Gibson, and Dunleavy. They also have to hope that McDermott, Mirotic, and Portis develop along with Valentine and Grant. A lot of "hope" to bank on though.

Need to just give this up anyway. Best case: Bulls sign him, he makes $25M a year, and he helps the Bulls limp to playoff spot so they can get beat down by LeBron or the Pacers or Raptors. Worst case: they make moves to clear space for him only to find out he's just using them for leverage again, depleting them for the future/they sign him and he sucks because he's got a ton of miles on him, completely wasting their investment. A 34-year-old Wade does not help this team enough to justify spending a fourth of your resources on him for at least two years.

I wonder if they're purposely trying to give him leverage so Miami gives him more money that eats into their cap next season.

I saw someone say that they are just sitting back and letting all these teams spend so they're more strapped next season when their is a better FA class.

I find it very hard to believe that the Bulls FO is anywhere close to outsmarting Pat Riley

You got that right. The only people GarPax would be outsmarting with this move is themselves. Signing a 34 year old Wade to that much money onto a team that should be rebuilding is a step backwards in the process.

I'm not so sure about this. I would agree with you if the team was bad enough to land a top 3-5 pick without Wade. Most likely, we pick anywhere from 10-14. Will that get us a good player? Probably. It should at least. Will it land us a franchise changing player? Probably not. Most likely not. So my question is: Is that type of player worth not trying to get better and not signing a player like Wade who can get you in the playoffs? If I'm an owner or GM, I would say no. Now, if we're looking like a lock for a top pick in the draft, that's a different story. The Bulls are in a tough spot. Not good enough to get in the playoffs and not bad enough to acquire the type of talent you need to turn your franchise around. So given that situation, why not try to make the playoffs and maybe sell a star FA next season?

I would pay a million dollar to anyone that could predict this lineup for the bulls. Insane.
