Bulls won... but the refs were inexcusably terrible.

After Rose's first shooting foul call his reaction was:

"****! THANK YOU!" I got a good laugh when I saw that. His reaction after Lebron's T was awesome too. Chuckling and clapping as Noah called Lebron a "***** ass hoe". LOL

Meh, there's more to it than that.

For one, Rose played pretty conservatively the past few games (really, since he came back from injury). Lots of floaters, jumpers and 3-pointers. Not much driving to the rim until the second half of last night's game.

Secondly, Rose has always had trouble drawing fouls because the physical contact in the air isn't obvious with him, because he doesn't exaggerate the effect. Remember how when Rose got his MVP, Bulls fans were gloating that Rose did it "the right way" by not being a guy who shows when he's fouled. Yeah, not working out so much now...

The look Rose gave after Lebron's reached in and "fouled" him at the end of last game was priceless.

Breen said on the telecast that Rose has been asking refs why he isn't getting calls. The answer was that on many drives to the hoops he is the one that is initiating contact. Which is a bullshit excuse because everybody initiates that contact.

A more reasonable explanation, imo, is that Rose is so good and so strong in the air that he has an ability to avoid contact while in that air. Add in the fact that he is so fast, that seeing it in real time at that level is probably pretty fucking hard.

If you thought the officiating was bad Friday, wait until Sunday.

Does anyone else feel like the game will be called as if they're determined to not let this go 3-1?

I just hope the Bulls play well enough for it to matter. They've yo-yoed a lot over the year.

I had the exact same thought. I wouldn't be surprised to see rose or jimmy foul out. They're going to call a lot of ticky tack fouls on them early.

Butler was amazing though. How he turned Thompson around when he hit the brakes at 4:08, is hilarious.

Butler actually traveled on that play. Only bad non-call/call that actually went in Chicago's favor in the second half I can think of.

Fair enough, but JR also fouled him there-albeit before the shot.

Lebron gets the Jordan treatment that is basketball

Jordan treatment? This is dumb. I hear people parroting this term all the time. Do you even realize how drastically different the game was called back then? Jordan is/was probably the most fouled player in the history of the NBA, especially when you consider this was before they cracked down on handchecking. The fouls were more voluminous and they were more brutal.

This term makes it sound like you couldn't even breath on Jordan when nothing is further from the truth.

If anything, he should have got more calls.

The refs were bad; there's no denying that. But overall, they were bad on both sides.

Most egregious:

--LeBron's reach-in on Rose

--Butler traveling on that second to last shot under the basket.

--Goaltending on Rose's shot

--Butler clunked on the 3

--Foul called on Cavs even though they cleanly blocked Rose during 4th quarter.

The refs weren't against the Bulls. But they did suck.

Generic blather. Dude, grow some testicles.

Not really. It's not like they ever call traveling. If they're going to ignore other instances, it's hardly appropriate to draw the line with Butler.

You guys complain like the Bulls didn't get the same preferential treatment with MJ.

In the mod forum planning your ban
Rose needs to do what Lebron does, stick his forearm out while driving to the rim, then yell whenever ANY contact is made.

Yeah, he's so fast that in real time, I could see how the ref might think he's out of control at point of contact. He may actually be getting penalized for being too fast.

I actually wish they called the whole league like they call Rose. I think it's bullshit that a ball handler can initiate contact and still get the foul. But like you said, the whole league operates like that. Therefore, those same rules and norms should apply to Rose.

I'm not going to pretend MJ didn't get some calls, but that's not a viable comparison. The hand-check nickel and dime crap that gets called today would be laughed off in the '80s and '90s, even on Jordan.

I literally just stated facts. Although I do agree with you on the Jordan stuff. Just got done writing something similar in another thread.
