If I do American I go with Land O Lakes, Boars Head, Taglio -- so much better than the pre-packaged garbage. Cheddar, Jack, and Gouda are all solid options, but if feeling a little more bold Stilton is really good.

Fresh American Cheese yellow on a burger.

Then utilize the remaining cheese for a Grilled Cheese sandwich. Perfect while watching the Bears on Prime Video on a Thursday night.

There is certainly a place in the burger world for good, old fashioned Kraft singles.

I ended up doing yellow American from the deli case.

And you know what else I did?

I forgot to put that divot in the middle of the burger so it doesn't cook into a tough hockey puck.

I always fucking forget that divot.

Kraft singles are for people who are too lazy to buy good burger cheese, prove me wrong.

I don’t know, on a smash burger it melts well. It is what a lot of restaurants use. I haven’t used Kraft singles in years but to each their own.

I mean a lot of places use it 'cause it's very convinient:good meltage, iconic taste on top of being pretty cheap. You can get similar effect with Montrey Jack I'd say. At home I usually opt for a mix of Montrey+Cheddar, works pretty good.
I know some burger joints that would imitate Kraft single my making a proccessed cheese inhouse from higher quality stuff. So it melts like Kraft, but tastes like actual cheeese.

Does anyone else find it mildly hilarious that our American Cheese is not real cheese?

It feels so American to me lol to be like "Dis byproduct of cheese.... is OUR cheese."

"But its not technically cheese."

"Yeah but its American Cheese so its cheese, **** you."

“Cheese food/cheese product”.

European 1: "Is this thing food? Like you can eat it regularly and it won't poison you?"

European 2: "Tell the Americans it barely counts as food, they'll answer the question eventually."

My town had a place that used cheez whiz on their burgers.
Place was awesome.
But the owner died and every place that's been there since has been shitty.

I don't care for tomatoes on my burger. Anyone else?
I actually always get the tomato, take it off the burg, and eat it with a little salt an pepper.

But actually on a burger.... No thanks.

Also, why tf do they put an ENTIRE slab of raw onion on a burger? It just seems wasteful as 90% of it gets taken off. Would be better with a medium amount of finely dice red onions imo. When it is literally a slab of onion I just find that disgusting.
