I really think they should do this. It would give them a first baseman. I would rather see them get rid of Zambrano and Fukodome before they make anyother deals. I also don't see them doing this, because of the fact Ricketts has said he wants to get younger and shed salary. With him saying that if he were to do this he would do the opposite of what he said.

Im pretty sure he also wants people to show up to games. I realize he paid a lot of money for the team but its not like he bought the Royals.

I hate to say it but this is starting out to be like the Trib owning the team all over again.

Sooo they could increase the selling price..

If the Trib intended to keep us..

They woulda kept in under 100 mill easily.

Z isn't going anywhere. Getting rid of Soriano is more likely. I think Fukudome is gone this offseason. They'll ship him to Boston for a bag of peanuts.

I don't even know if I want the Cubs to sign Dunn. He has stuggle big time lately and does nice put up big offensive numbers, besides hr and BB.

Seriously? Seriously. Get a clue.

 Please, Cubs fans are still turning out in droves to see a shit team in a shit ballpark. They are currently 6th in the MLB in attendance, and their last year out of the top-10 in attendance was 2001, all without a new ballpark, no major renovations and no WS title. Oh yeah, and did I mention that they're doing all of this with a crappy stadium that's in the bottom-half of operational MLB parks in seating capacity?

Now, will they be breaking attendance records if they look to be uncompetitive for the coming years? Certainly not, but Cubs fans have proven over the last decade that they are more than willing to show up in good numbers to pay to watch this team play, regardless of the product on the field.

Ummm....no. The Sawx are currently looking at a $100 million bill for 15 players next year, with such notables as Hideki Okajima, Jacoby Ellsbury, Manny Delcarmen and Jonathan Papelbon entering arbitration. They're not just going to straight-up take Fukudome's mammoth contract.

I don't think the Sox will take Fukudome, but I think someone will take him and 3/4+ of his contract. Colvin will be an everyday player...If we get a bite on Soriano that's willing to pay more than half his salary, he may be gone, too...

I'm just not a Dunn fan...I would rather have Lee back. So, Lefty you will sign him to a 4 year contract worth 50M. That's just DUMB.

It's pointless arguing the issue with you, you're just too stupid to understand any points I make.

Why would you want Lee over Dunn?

Dunn has had a wOBA of .383 or better in all but one year since 2004. Lee has been that high three times in his career.

Dunn is a ton better at hitting than Lee, plus Dunn is left handed. The Cubs havent really had a left handed power hitter since Oh Henry.

I am not saying I necessarily want Dunn for 4/50, but I definitely want him over Lee at any price.

I still think it be smart to wait one year to see if team can get 1 of big 3 in 2012 Class...A-Gone, Pujols, or Fielder.

I'd shit my pants with excitement if we could get Dunn at 4/50 million. I think that would be a more than fair deal for the Cubs based on what he has produced so far in his career.

I would think Dunn would want more years and dollars though.

2012 is even worse for the Cubs as far as payroll goes. As of now they have $62.5 million committed for 5 players, with some of their best players being in at least their second year of arbitration. Marmol is probably going to be in the $5 million range, Soto will be somewhere around $8-9 million (or more) range by that time and Sean Marshall could reasonably be awarded $2-3 million by that time. That's $80 million, conservatively, for 8 players, and of their 10 arb-eligible players, six of them are going to be in their 3rd arb year. Long story short, going after a guy that is going to command at least $20 million a season would cripple the Cubs as far as actually fielding a team goes.

Well that's a whole different story. You can't just do nothing either. Sure you can get Lee for a year or two but the team is still bad.

What's the point in that? You shouldn't do nothing for fear of a Zambrano/Soriano like mistake.

Regardless if Dunn wants 4-50 he can sign elsewhere he isn't worth that b

Don't get me wrong, Dunn will kill the ball at Wrigley but his average will even be lower than usual as the field is way smaller. I think he would be good as a Yank. Just because the ball carries and more room for the ball to drop. But, I will kill if he goes there I HATE the Yanks. However, he won't go there.

Tom Ricketts says he wants to keep a top 5 in payroll and with 40M coming off the books, that won't happen if he won't spend. So we will never know.

I want a Top 3 payroll to be honest, the more spending, the better the free agents to fill in the holes the prospects haven't filled.
