Cliche people are simple people and that's why they're so easy to fool.

I just found out in the last two weeks that my grandmother and father both have cancer.

Grandma (mouth cancer), I'm not surprised about because she is a lifelong smoker. My grandpa, her husband and smoking partner, died from lung cancer 15 years ago.

My dad is only 51 and was surprised to find out he has Mesothelioma. Outlook on him is not good. I'm not too torn up about it, though, because he was never around much growing up so we're not close.

Cancer is horrible. I can't believe the mortality rate is still as high as it is. Sure it's come down dramatically, but it's 2015. Wish there was a one treatment "cure all" by now.
.
That's really surprising to me too

That's awful about your brother..I feel the worst for his kids that don't even know what's coming..maaan

My brother has been fighting cancer for a little over a year now. He's too far gone at this point, docs say it's just a matter of time.. Sorry to all of those who have had to watch a loved one suffer through this shit. It's not easy.

sorry man

He told everyone in Slack weeks ago. Not that a high and mighty **** like yourself could be bothered to mingle with the peasants. **** off Crys.

Novak, again sorry about the situation at hand. You know I am around if you want to talk about it. Hopefully you and the rest of your family are around to pick up the slack for your brother's kids. It really is selfish to not tell anyone until its that late. I would be pissed off for a long time with my parents even long after their deaths if they kept that from me.

Playing devils advocate here but when people know you are dying they tend to treat you very different. I can't say that I could blame a dying person for just wanting to be treated normally. I 've seen it first hand with people I was close to.

It's a selfish but understabdable decision

I see it as anything but selfish. Keep it real til the end. They don't want to be remembered as the person being pitied while they were ill but rather as the person they had always been.

Hey, I feel as bad as any for whoever gets cancer. Just saying why there is so much more of it now.

Also a lot more people in the world. Has the percentage of the population getting cancer changed?

So not only are you a disney expert, now you're an armchair epidemiologist? Why don't you start another thread in B&I instead of derailing this thread with your agenda?

Back on Janruary 29th in 2010, my step mom gave birth to my youngest sibling. She was perfectly healthy then. Around June 14th that same year, she goes to a doctor because she has this bump on her chest. She's told she's in stage 4 of whatever type of cancer she had(I forget). Then was told on the spot she had 3 months to live. So in a 4 month span she went from being perfectly healthy to near death.

Nothing worse than cancer. I'm sorry about your brother. It's a horrible thing to have.

Well, yeah. Who in their right mind is an asshole to people in their immediate family that are dying? Oh. Right. Massive assholes.

Edit: The main reason I say its selfish is that you're not giving people the opportunity to say their goodbyes, say anything on their mind they always wanted to say and never did or to get to do something they never got to do with them.

As someone who has recently (almost 4 weeks) quit smoking and still going through the pains, this thread has helped in regards to reminding me why I'm quitting.
