The Bears have added plenty of beef in free agency, mostly in the trenches. Now with Tyler Warren, they get more of it, and provide Caleb Williams another talented tight end.

...Thoughts?

ESPN too....

TE, Penn State
Is tight end a primary need for Chicago? No. Is it easy to imagine new coach Ben Johnson dialing up some incredible concepts and play designs revolving around Warren? Oh, yes. Offensive line would have been the clear priority for the Bears, but they totally revamped their interior by trading for guards Jonah Jackson and then also signing center Drew Dalman. The trenches already look much better on paper. So, let's get Warren, who is tremendous after the catch and could help quarterback Caleb Williams in a big way, into the top 10.

I can see why they do these mocks. They get clicks and it’s fun to mock players that they think fits BJ’s offense. Even though he literally said it will be a brand new offense.
I’m still hopeful for a pass rusher or LT at 10 but it’ll be an exciting lead up to the draft either way.

With Membou and Jeanty gone I don't HATE it, but seems like a luxury pick here. Is he really Bowers, so much better than Kmet, will they really use two TE sets? IDK. I'd probably go Banks, Booker, or Mykel here. But Warren is one of the highest rated players in this draft.

Its not the worst thing they could do but i would personally despise it. If ever there was a tradedown anywhere/for anything set up that to me is it.

Here's what SI thinks about it:

"
Look, I get it. Warren is a stud and he warrants top-10 consideration in the first round. But the Chicago Bears won't be the team to select him.

The Bears would be more likely to trade down than spend a premium selection on a tight end, especially with Cole Kmet already on the roster and already getting paid big money.

Kmet is just 26 years old and still has an untapped upside. Shane Waldron and the cast of misfit play-callers wasted his pass-catching ability in 2024; that shouldn't be the case this year, and I'm certain the Bears want to maximize his role in the offense before adding another high-profile tight end to the mix.

If the Chicago Bears plan on pivoting away from the offensive or defensive line in the first round of the NFL Draft, it will only be for Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. He's the only prospect who could tempt Poles and Johnson to pass on Will Campbell, Kelvin Banks Jr., Mason Graham, or James Pearce, among others.

The Bears' upgrades along the offensive line definitely make the 2025 NFL draft more fun, but it won't produce a crazy result like this. At least, it shouldn't. And if it does, Poles will have some explaining to do."

I've got a bad 2014 Bears Draft vibe with Ryan Poles running the show.

Every offseason it's the same. Poles will start off with a couple solid moves that makes you think he finally gets it, then he follows that up by giving a 3 sack DE 16 million dollars a year to replace the last 3 sack DE that he just cut.

Then gives over 14 million dollars a season to a 32 year old(in April) DT that was still such a difference maker at a vital position that Atlanta released him out right.

It's as if Ryan Poles is trying to build a dollar store version in one offseason of what Campbell and Johnson spent 2 years of building from the inside out with young draft talent before they used a first round pick on Gibbs, or heaven forbid a TE.

Ryan Poles IS going to f%ck this up and its not hard to tell because he already is.

Biff is spot on with his Fletcher Cox comparison to Walter Nolen dead to rights. Ryan Poles is going to pass in Nolen so that he can reach for a GUARD, SHADE DT or waste a pick on a HB.

Poles is going to pass on yet another real difference maker like Carter and Bowers for a.solid player instead because he's the "football guy" running the franchise into the ground while viewing his correct critics and skeptics a bunch of grunts in the Mom's basements making "outside noise".

Someone should open up a pinned draft thread so everyone can enter a final mock and then lock it after the draft and UDFA then revisit the thread after the season to see how it goes. Can Ryan Poles draft better than Mom's basement.

I bet you multiple posters make him look foolish

For the love of GOD, Kevim.Warren DO NOT extend this putz if they haven't already.

I got a feeling a few days ago too that we could draft Warren. If you're looking BPA then he might be the best pick but it sure would be a luxury pick.

I'm thinking Mykel Williams will be the pick at #10, or at least my preferred pick.

Last TE to be taken at 10 was Eric Ebron I'm pretty sure.

Just say no to being the new Lions
Kyle Pitts 2021 first round #4 overall. This isn't 1985, teams are playing more 12 personnel than ever. It's OK to have more than 1 TE, especially since Kmet isn't Brock Bowers either.

Speaking of the LOLions... In 2019 Ben Johnson was an Offensive Quality Control assistant for them, and guess what they did with the #8 pick of the first round. They drafted TJ Hockenson Tight end from Iowa. It's not about copying the sad ass Lions, its about putting as many weapons on the field as possible so that your creative HC/OC can create matchup problems that Defenses won't be able to solve.
