Chances of a watch-party at the UC?

I know many sports teams do this for their fans when a deciding road game is taking place.

For instance, if the Hawks are fortunate enough to be in a position to clinch in Game 4 or Game 6 in Philly or Montreal, how awesome would it be for the Hawks to open up the UC for fans to come watch on the jumbotron? I know I'd be very interested in attending something like that.

Am I alone on this one or would you guys be up for something like that?

I don't wanna sound like an elitist, but I want to be in a completely douchebag-free zone when watching Cup Finals games. I won't be going to random local bars or anything..if I'm gonna be with people I want to be with actual Hawk fans.

If they can make money off it, then I'd say 100% chace. I believe I saw Philly do one in the Bruins series.

They did. Looked like an absolute blast on TV!!

Maybe give season ticket holders a special deal and charge a small fee for whoever else. Maybe even open up concession and merchandise stands too. Why not? I bet the place would be close to packed..

Not a bad idea at all really.

If the Habs can do it, why not the Hawks?

The Habs one was awesome... don't see why not at the UC unless other shit is going on.

I hope they do. It's likely to be my only chance of visiting the UC during the Finals unless I get lucky.

Good point on other shit going on..

Although, I haven't looked at a schedule, but didn't that article about the UC's ice mention that the UC won't be busy in the coming weeks except for Hawks games? Probably shouldn't be an issue.

As someone said above, probably just comes down to whether or not they can make a buck on it. I'd like to think that isn't the case and they'd just do it for long-suffering fans..but we'll see.

Because they give the proceeds to charity.

For a nominal fee, they do these events at the arena itself. I remember doing this back in Anaheim during the 2003 SCF game 7 against New Jersey. It was $5 with the proceeds going to charity.

In other words, I would not be surprised if this happens.

Unfortunately, though, I won't be in town during the middle part of the series. I'll be in San Antonio during games 3-5. See what happens when you "expect" a long conference finals?

Rocky was on WGN Radio this morning and said it's something they hadn't thought of yet. Huh!? How could the genius that is the front office not even though of this yet?

Nope. Just a statement as to why the Hawks wouldn't do it..... The Hawks don't have a real good record of auctions and charity.

I'd like to see the record you're referring to.

Oh-- and Ton--

Can we change the limit on the quotations to unlimited?

They've got it covered. If not the UC, I'm surprised not at Grant Park, or some other large outdoor venue.

If memory serves me correct, the breakfast auctions at the Convention benefit them, and not a charity.

I also believe the Winter Classic's sweater auction was for their benefit as well.

Ok, I'm just wondering where it says they have to give anything to charity?

At any point in time did they mention it was going towards charity, and pull out of that?

I'm just trying to get the facts correct.

That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Being a business is one thing, reneging from a charitable event is another.

Traditionally, teams donate the proceeds to charity when they open their buildings for watch parties.
