Chantix, anybody try it?

I found out yesterday that I have emphysema. I was thinking of trying Chantix to quit smoking. Has anyone tried it or something similar to quit?

Sorry about the bad news man.
If you want to quit, you need to decide you want to quit. Like REALLY decide, get serious, more than you are now. Then get really stubborn about it. That stubbornness is there inside you, it's the same bit that keeps you smoking. Former smoker here, and Chantix has been very mixed. I know family members that smoked more on it, because all it did was elevate their stress level from all the side effects. Anything is worth trying, but the bottom line is that you need to battle this demon.

One of my best friends is a pharmacist and he writes scripts for it. It works then people get off then they fall into the trap. I have a friend he writes for and falls off, but this last time he has done it. Its been about a year and he is doing well. I agree with Crys that you have to decide. Maybe change some habits. Im a smoker but not a big time smoker. Mine is completely an oral fixation. I do not crave nicotine. I crave routine. Being where I am from and what I do is tough. Drinking and smoking just go together. Also, Im in the restaurant business. This sounds so fucked up but its so true. When I was a cook, you could work the same amount of time and ask to take a smoke and they are like thats fine. But, if I was like can I take a five minute break and sit down. Thats a fucking no get back to work. Weird but true. Im fighting that battle right now. My two biggest hiccups are drinking and driving. Inbetween, no issues. Find something to take your mind of it. Just my advice.

chantix works for some people but it also has some side effects which can **** up normal ppl. I'm talking abt psych issues type side effects

throw your pack out and go straight cold turkey. it'll be tough but nobody is gonna force your to buy another pack or smoke another one...its all within your own power and emphysema gives you the incentive to stop.

i dunno the harms of vaping and how that would effect emphysema.. but it helped me quit smoking.... but i vape all day now... i ran out of ejuice not to long ago and was pissed i actually had to smoke regular cigs for 2 days (first time in a few months) until my juice arrived..mail was slower than normal...i have to order from overseas.. its illegal to sell it here with nicotine in it...

I'm just seriously asking if you are citing not drinking and driving as a "nice to have" if you could fix everything. the way your original statement reads could be one of two things:

you have a drinking problem, and a driving problem, and they aren't related. you want yo quit drinking, maybe through AA. you also want to quit driving because NO's mass transit system suddenly has improved.

or

you have a drinking and driving problem

I just want to know what you meant.

My dad used it and only smoked those Blu cigarettes. He quit for about 2 years. Now he's back to smoking but he said it worked really well. Idk why the **** he started smoking again. But I guess it gives you nightmares. Lot of people said it gives them really bad dreams.

My girlfriend was on it, and attacked me. Now I am in DV training going on 18 months still in the nightmare. Be aware that people that take chanitx are unaware they are becoming total ass holes. Whatever you do do not mix with alcohol, and probably adderol as it exacerbates the thinking that you are right.

I think Chantix should be illegal. You could google "Chantix ruined my life" and find some forums with people explaining better the weird aggressive attitude I am talking about. Lawsuits. It has been involved in at least one controversial murder.

I wouldn't take it and I don't really want to be anywhere near anybody that does.

Definately are risks with Chantix. Discuss with your healthcare provider before starting. Having said that I've seen 2 pack a day life long smokers put them down and stay off tobacco using Chantix. Do your home work and decide with your healthcare provdier what is right for you. Wellbutrin was also marketed as a smoking cessation aid in the 90s under the brand name Zyban. That might be an option if Chantix is not.

Also agree with Crys, the single most important indicator in successfully quitting is a strong personal desire to quit. If you don't succeed the 1st time, keep trying, most smokers try to quit multiple times before they are successful.
