Breaking News: Notre Dame To Move to Big Ten

notre+dame.gif
BigTenLogo.jpg

South Bend Ind- Athletic Director of Notre Dame Jack Swarbick has announced that the University of Notre Dame will join the Big Ten effective IMEDIATELY. New coach Eric Follman was dissapointed with the decision but knew it had to be done. Swarbick was quoted saying "We are tired of people saying we cant compete in a conference so this is what we are here to show them we are still going to be a prestigous school knowmatter what decison we make." Fans will not be happy about this decision but was a move that was bound to happen eventually.

CHAD0034's Ohio State Buckeyes 2009 Season In Review
via The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

Losing a wealth of experience on both sides of the ball, many thought 2009 might be a rebuilding year for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The team didn't think so, however, winning its fifth consecutive Big Ten title, defeating arch-rival Michigan for a sixth consecutive season and winning the 96th Rose Bowl Game to finish the season 11-2 and ranked No. 5 in the polls.

The Buckeyes opened the campaign with a hard-fought victory over the U.S. Naval Academy. Junior linebacker Brian Rolle intercepted a Navy two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter to seal a 31-27 OSU win. The game took place on Military Appreciation Day in front of an Ohio Stadium opening game record 105,092.

Ohio State welcomed No. 3 Southern California to the Horseshoe the following week for a much anticipated prime time re-match from the previous season. In a back-and-forth game witnessed by an Ohio Stadium record crowd 106,033, USC defeated the Buckeyes, 18-15.

The following week, in a rare neutral site contest, Ohio State battled the Toledo Rockets in Cleveland Browns Stadium. On a record-setting day for sophomore quarterback Terrelle Pryor, the Buckeyes recorded their first of two consecutive shutouts, winning 38-0. Pryor was 17-of-28 for 262 yards, all personal bests at the time, with three touchdown passes. He also rushed 12 times for 110 yards, including a career-long 43-yarder in the third quarter, with one touchdown. In all, he had 372 yards of total offense.

ohio-state-buckeyes.jpg

The Buckeyes 2009 team had a lot of chemistry, and hope it will carry over to 2010

The Buckeyes started the Big Ten schedule with a 30-0 dismantling of Illinois. History was made in Ohio Stadium that afternoon; the Tressel family became only the second family in college football history to win 500 games.

Following a 33-14 win at Indiana, the Buckeyes hosted undefeated Wisconsin. Behind 21 points from defense and special teams, Ohio State knocked off the No. 24 Badgers 31-13. Senior co-captain Kurt Coleman and junior Jermale Hines returned interceptions for touchdowns and senior Ray Small had a 96-yard kickoff return.

The Buckeyes didn't have enough heroics the next week and fell at Purdue, 26-18. Entering the fourth quarter, Ohio State trailed 23-7. Thanks to 177 fourth-quarter yards, the Buckeyes almost pulled off a gritty comeback. The loss snapped Ohio State's school-record 16-game Big Ten road winning streak, just one shy of the all-time conference record.

After a 38-7 Homecoming victory over Minnesota and a 45-0 victory over non-conference New Mexico State (the third shutout of the season for the "Silver Bullets"), a Herculean November test was straight ahead.

First up was a trip to No. 11 Penn State. In front of 110,033 screaming fans, Pryor delivered his best performance, leading the Buckeyes to a resounding 24-7 win. Pryor accounted for three Buckeye touchdowns, including a back-breaking 62-yard strike to sophomore wide receiver DeVier Posey in the third quarter that extended OSU's lead to 17-7. The Ohio State defense limited a Penn State offense (averaging 35+ ppg in its previous five games) to a season-low seven points and just 201 yards of total offense.

The following week, Ohio State and league frontrunner Iowa battled in an Ohio Stadium showdown, with the winner clinching a Big Ten championship and Rose Bowl invitation. Playing one of the more dramatic games in recent Big Ten history, the teams were tied 24-24 at the end of regulation. After a huge stop by the Buckeye defense, walk-on back-up kicker Devin Barclay booted Ohio State to Pasadena and its first Rose Bowl appearance in 13 years, with a 39-yard field goal in overtime.

The Buckeyes finished off their daunting November to Remember with a sixth straight win over Michigan, defeating the Wolverines 21-10 in Michigan Stadium.

Ohio State took on the favored Oregon Ducks New Year's Day in the 96th Rose Bowl Game, winning 26-17. Pryor had a career-high 266 yards passing and two touchdowns, rushed for 72 yards and earned Rose Bowl MVP honors. Oregon featured one of the most efficient offenses in the country, but the Buckeye defense was able to bottle it up much of the day. Duck QB Jeremiah Masoli was just 9-of-20 for 81 yards with an interception and had six rushing attempts for nine yards. Ohio State had a Rose Bowl record 41:37 time of possession.

The 19-member senior class closed out its tenure with a four-year school record 44 victories. Senior co-captain Kurt Coleman and Justin Boren took home first-team all-Big Ten honors. Brandon Saine, Thaddeus Gibson, Cameron Heyward and Ross Homan were second-team selections. Coleman was also voted the team MVP and a first-team All-American by Sporting News.

Crimsion's Michigan Wolverines 2009 Season In Review
via iSportsweb.com

Michigan Football entered the 2009 season fresh off of a miserable 3-9 campaign in the inaugural year of the Rich Rodriguez era. When the season started, there were a lot of questions surrounded by uncertainty, hope, and fear. Michigan was one of 5 teams in FBS (Division I) with a true freshman starting at QB.

Led by that freshman QB, Tate Forcier, Michigan exploded out of the starting blocks by thrashing Western Michigan, a team most pundits said would upset the Wolverines. For an encore, Michigan knocked off Notre Dame in electrifying fashion with a game winning TD pass in the closing seconds.

The first sign of trouble emerged in the third game of the season when Michigan’s defense was having a hard time stopping Eastern Michigan in the first half of their game. The next week Michigan needed another last second TD pass from Tate Forcier to beat Indiana.

The 4-0 start turned out to be a house of cards that was hiding Michigan’s flaws within. Behind the flimsy walls were the cold-hard facts that Michigan’s defense was not very good. Also tucked away inside the house of cards was the fact that the Wolverines were starting a true freshman QB and he was backed up by another true freshman.

Throw in the fact that Michigan lost their best offensive lineman, David Molk, in the third week of the season and those card walls started swaying and teetering.

Following the 4-0 start Michigan had back-to-back road games at Michigan State and Iowa. Forcier continued his heroics at Michigan State by leading a game tying TD drive in the final seconds. However, Michigan lost in overtime after Forcier threw an interception in the end zone.

Michigan returned home 4-2 and feasted on Delaware State for their 5th and final win of the season.

Penn State mauled Michigan the following week and the house of cards starting to crumble and as it came tumbling down in the following weeks it would reveal all of the flaws and weaknesses of this young Michigan team, a team that was comprised of 69% freshmen and sophomores.

ncf_pryor_forcier1_576.jpg

Forcier believes that he will overcome Pryor this time around

The turning point in the season came in the game at Illinois. On Michigan’s third play of the second half, Forcier connected with Roy Roundtree on a 76 yard pass play. Roundtree was brought down from behind at the goal line and the call on the field was originally a Michigan touchdown, which would have put them up 20-7 and likely finished off a fragile 1-6 Illinois team.

The TD was overturned by the replay officials and Michigan had a first down and goal inside the one yard line. Michigan was unable to punch it in for the decisive TD. Within a matter of minutes, Illinois scored 2 touchdowns and had a 21-13 lead.

Michigan imploded and lost the game 38-13. By the end of that Halloween debacle, the house of cards was completely leveled and all that had been hidden behind those walls was brought into the light and exposed.

Michigan lost their final three games to Purdue, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. The Wolverines finished last in the Big Ten with a 1-7 record and would not go bowling for the second year in a row.

eric7064's Notre Dame Irish 2009 Season In Review

No wonder Notre Dame turned down the option of going to a bowl with its 6-6 record. The Fighting Irish had already experienced enough drama to fill multiple seasons.

It was a year unlike any other in South Bend. There were 10 games decided by a touchdown or less, most of them coming down to the final minute and two of them going into overtime. The Irish won three of the first four of those nail-biters, but then the luck turned against them.

Jimmy Clausen finally lived up to his promise as the former No. 1 national recruit by having one of the finest seasons ever by a Notre Dame quarterback. Golden Tate broke every major single-season receiving record, and Michael Floyd and Kyle Rudolph had star-turning moments in between injuries. The offensive line turned a corner and became a credible unit.

But the offense stalled too often in the red zone, and it could never score enough points to mask the defensive deficiencies. Defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta installed his patented blitz-heavy scheme, but the Irish couldn't tackle, get consistent pressure on the quarterback or cover receivers with any skill.

That's why they lost their last four games, and it's why Charlie Weis was fired after a third straight regular season without a postseason. It's time for a new

notre-dame-football.jpg
g

Offensive MVP(s): Tate and Clausen. It's impossible to separate the two, who each had perhaps the best season in school history at his respective position. Clausen threw 28 touchdowns and only four interceptions, while Tate had more than 1,650 yards from scrimmage and 19 total scores. Each made the other look good, too.

Defensive MVP: Kyle McCarthy. The senior safety was one of the few players who had a good year on the defensive side of the ball. He was the heart and soul of the defense and made several key plays, including a game-saving interception against Michigan State, one of his five picks on the year. That a safety led the team in tackles probably says a lot about the defense, however.

Turning point: The Navy loss. Notre Dame was 6-2 and still had hopes of a BCS bid when it inexplicably got beat at home by Navy for the second time in three years. That pretty much sealed Weis's fate, and the team never won another game.

What's next: New coach Eric Follman will bring the spread offense to South Bend where the Irish will look to build its way back to the top in thier new conference the Big Ten. With the losses of Clausen and Tate the offense might take a hit but its a hit they will have to take to get back to the top.

eric7064's Notre Dame 2010-2011 Season Preview
dayne-crist.jpg

Irish fans hope Crist can live up to his High School hype

It didn’t take long for Notre Dame to sour on abrasive Charlie Weis, so they got rid of him and try Eric Follman, who was an Assisant at Texas for a long time under Mack Brown. He will attempt to bring the Spread offense to South Bend this fall.

This Notre Dame offense was very good under Weis, averaging 30 points, 128 yards rushing and 323 yards passing in 2009. However, Weis never built good offensive lines or established ground games, preferring to chuck it all over the field with his pro-style passing attack. And his defenses kept getting worse. Follmanbrings in a pro-style/spread attack, as well, but QB Jimmy Clausen and WR Golden Tate are off to the NFL, so it’s going to take a while, Irish fans.

6-4 junior QB Dayne Christ is coming off major knee surgery and threw for 130 yards, 1 TD and 1 pick in 2009. The entire starting offensive line needs to be replaced. Christ looked good in the spring, along with junior QB Nate Montana, son of former Notre Dame and San Francisco 49er great Joe Montana. The ground game returns senior RB Armando Allen Jr. (697 yards), and the passing attack still has speedy junior WR Michael Floyd (795 yards, 18 yards per catch) and 6-6 junior TE Kyle Rudolph (364 yards). Back in 2007 Floyd was very productive, too, with 719 yards and 7 TDs, so there are good pieces in place.

Follman preaches physical defensive play and anything will help this Notre Dame defense that allowed 26 ppg in 2009 and too many big plays and blown leads. The defense gets everyone back on the front seven, including talented linebacker Manti Te’o, but the secondary has to replace safeties Kyle McCarthy and Sergio Brown. At least both starting corners return. They played poorly in close games under Weis: They lost in OT to Pitt (36-33), collapsed against Syracuse, and lost 29-24 at North Carolina in 2008, and last season lost to Michigan by 4, Navy by 2 and UConn by 3. Stopping the run has been a problem, giving up 178 rush yards to Pitt in 2008 and over 30 points 6 times last fall. In 2007 they allowed over 200 yards rushing 6 times in 12 games. Navy and Air Force gouged them for 257 and rush 285 yards, in addition to 46 and 41 points.

There have been a slew of embarrassing losses, too. They got beat up badly by BC and USC in 2008, and lost at home to a horrible Syracuse squad, 24-23, as a 20-point favorite. Last season they lost to Navy again (23-21) at home and lost 38-34 at Michigan. While Follman has a lot of rebuilding to do, the schedule isn’t any help: There isn’t a true break in the slate until Western Michigan in mid-October, and teams like Purdue and Michigan should be better than last year. Road games at Michigan State, BC and USC will make the goal a .500 campaign and squeezing into a bowl game. Kelly is the right guy to run the problem, but Notre Dame fans will need a little patience.

CHAD0034's Ohio State Buckeyes 2010-2011 Season Preview
via footballpreview.com

pryor.jpg

Terrelle Pryor is among the top 5 preseason Heisman winner candidates

2010 is poised to be another dominant year for the Ohio State Buckeyes. After an eleven win season in 2009, including a Rose Bowl win over Oregon, the Buckeyes return 16 of 22 starters. With question marks on some of the other national powerhouses, this could be the year Ohio State wins it all.

Junior quarterback Terrelle Pryor is the centerpiece of Ohio State’s offense. Not only did he throw for over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns, he also led the team in rushing with 1,014 yards. He is an amazing athlete and it is hard to believe he has only been playing college football for two years. Starting receivers DeVier Posey and Dane Sanzenbacher return after accounting for 67 percent of the receiving yards last year.

The passing game was not overly strong in 2009, but it didn’t have to be because of the superb running game. Running backs Brandon Saine and Daniel Herron combined for 1,339 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. As a team, the Buckeyes rushed for 200 yards a game. Most of the offense line returns in 2010, so the Buckeyes should again be able to rely on their powerful ground game.

Ohio State’s defense was absolutely amazing last season, ranking in the top five in yards allowed per game and surrendering only 12.5 points per game. The defense returns seven starters, so look for them to continue their success. Defensive lineman Cameron Heyward decided to return for his senior season after leading the team in sacks. Also, the top two tacklers return in linebackers Ross Homan and Brian Rolle.

Chad Fellers team has all the pieces to contend for a national championship in 2010, as long as Pryor can stay healthy. This team should easily win the Big Ten conference and be one of the best teams in the country.

Ohio State With Sloppy Play, Give Up Near Historic Late Comeback Against Baylor Bears; But Survive 45-40

OHST-45, BAYL-40- CHAD0034 had a rough time with the Baylor Bears in his first game as head coach, in week one of the NCAA Football season. Baylor somehow managed to get on the board first with a huge 68 yard touchdown pass, only to miss the extra kick.

Than the Buckeyes would kick a field goal, only to allow another TD. This is when the speculation started that this game could be a possible upset for the ages. The Buckeyes tacked on two nice, quick touchdowns before half, and returned one at the start of the second half, to push their lead to 24-13. Another score made things look out of reach, but the Baylor Bears thought otherwise, as they would go on to make this a game to watch late, with two touchdowns in the last minute of the game to push the score to 45-40, where it would end.

"We need to play much, much better against Miami next week. A performence like this next week, and we'll see that zero in the loss column change," said coach CHAD0034 after the game.

MICH - 35, CONN - 26- This week the Michigan Wolverines would take on a lower seeded Connecticut team as they looked to start off their season with a bang.

Today's game started off as a defensive battle for the 1st quarter as the Huskies went up 3-0 on the Wolverines. Connecticut then responded with two back-to-back touchdowns to go up 17-0 and put Michigan's back against the wall.

The defense picked up in the Wolverines' favor as Michigan's line backers were able to create two forced fumbles that lead to two straight touchdowns to bring them within three points.

Michigan continued its domination up until late in the 3rd quarter when Tate Forcier and Michael Shaw both suffered minor injuries, but were able to return. Connecticut was able to take advantage of this and gain some ground but not enough as the Wolverines defeat the Huskies with a score of 35 to 26.

First year coach, Jordan Charles said that he was "shocked" that the Wolverines were able to pull out a win after making countless mistakes on the offensive end.

Buckeyes Play Much Better Defense At Home In 20-10 Win Against Hurricanes

Ohio State forced Jacory Harris to throw three interceptions in this game

OHST-20, MIA-10- After last weeks tough mental game against the Baylor Bears, I'm sure fans were nervous at kickoff when the #14 Miami Hurricanes strolled into Ohio Stadium. However, from kickoff to finish the Buckeyes were the better team. Maybe it's because they were at home? Or maybe it's because the Bears just played really well last week? We'll never know, but either way the Buckeyes are 2-0 after a big win against Miami.

Terrelle Pryor had a terrible game last week, but rebounded to go for 12-16 with 153 yards and one touchdown. He also had no interceptions, which was good to see for the Buckeye fans. Miami's starting running back would get injured early in the second half, and find himself out the entire rest of the game.

ND-28 #12USC-17- Notre Dame Irish today got "Lucky". Maybe having Irish in the name helped but Notre Dame scored 3 defensive td's today 2 by fumble and 1 by INT. Without those playes final score would have been 17-6. The Irish offesne wasnt good at all as Armando Allen averaged 0.3 YPC and Crist threw 3 INT. The defense obviously won the game for ND. Notre Dame finnaly gets a win against USC and will hopefully enter the top 25. They will have a cupcake game next week vs Western Kentucky.

MICH - 3, BC - 38- As these teams took the field the crowd roared, there wasn't a single moment where the arena was silent. Coming off a close win over Connecticut the Michigan Wolverines were looking to improve to 2 and 0 comign into this one.

Boston College was rmore than ready for the task at hand. Their defense was on point as they forced two fumbles and forced Quarterback, Tate Forcier to throw a hand full of picks which gave BC the upper hand.

The defensive domination continued throughout the rest of the game as Boston College was able to come out with a win.
