Ask yourself why the Commanders only got a 3rd if they've been shopping Chase since the offseason? Likely a 3rd was the best offer they got

49ers won’t sign him. He will be a free agent and then they will get another 3rd round pick in return. This is what good teams do.

Admit it if the Bears got young for a conditional end of round 3rd you would be over the moon.
the 49ers are gambling that young will offset their need for help in the secondary. the fact that you think the 49ers situation is anything like the bears situation is ridiculous. the 49ers are trying to win a superbowl and hope this puts them over the top...the bears are trying to build a team not a 1yr rental. the bears getting him for a 3rd rd pick and then having to shell out a monster contract is not good business when there are legit health concerns.

A couple things to take into account. We already knew sweat had more value than young. So this isn't something shocking.

If you preferred young at a lower cost, that's fine and is a reasonable argument. I actually felt and feel this way but understand there were concerns around Youngs health.

Poles hasn't done well as gm, but value on this trade isn't on my list of issues over his tenure.

I’m aware the 49ers are going for a Super Bowl and the Bears are in the gutter per usual.

Personally, I would rather have Sweat who has provided consistent production and has played every game 4 out of the 5 seaaons he has been in the league.

Nonetheless, we should probably wait to reserve full judgement until extensions are signed or not signed. I get a feeling Young wants to be paid off of his high potential instead of what he has produced up to this point. Kind of like Jadeveon Clowney who has bounced around the league demanding money, but has yet to have a 10 sack season. After all Chase Young is still only 24 and could be a cornerpiece of your rebuild if you believed in him. But to let him walk at that age for a conditional 3rd says alot too.

Sure that's a possibility, but not likely. I doubt the prognosis on his knee(s) changes from now til the offseason. He'll be likely getting short term contracts in a likelihood.

Also it's worth noting that you can only take advantage of the Comp pick system when you have a plethora of talent on the team already. CHI is at least 3 years from being able to do something like that to their advantage lol

Really like the trade for the 49ers if its protected by being conditional on snaps played - seems like really well managed risk and a ton of upside if he somehow manages to stay healthy into the post season.

Good God, these deals are not comparable amd can we please stop with the "Dick Ripping".

MS has been one of the better DE for a couple years now and has a very healthy track record. Young, while younger, has significant injury history. Also, it's become clear that SanFran maybe has no intention of re-signing him and that comp 3rd was the best deal for a guy that perhaps Washington had no desire to resign either. He'll, for all we know Young may know he has a short career ahead of him and said **** No I ain't going to Chicago I am going to test FA.

MS, on the other hand, may have said Yes, I'll go to Chicago and I'll sign a long term deal.

Point is, there are alot of things we don't know. If MS does NOT resign with us, then 100%, it's a fireable offense. But if he does and continues to be a solid DE, then it's a good trade. This is not the draft to go hunting for a DE, it's a very weak class

Would we? You give up a 3rd rounder and have to pay him big money with his injury history? The 49ers don't have to worry about that, he isn't staying past this season

And that makes Chase Young available in free agency if the Bears want to go that route. Doubt it though
