how do you figure? he is bad and not effective. he does nothing in front of the net, he has been losing board battles left and right

All that...except for the part where he is effective, screens the goalie, and does well on the boards during the PP.

Brunette's speed has caused him to pretty much be a PP specialist. He is good at what he does and was screening the goalie well last night...Hawks needed to get some shots on and that 2nd unit wasn't doing it. If Brunette is going to play it should be with Kane/Hossa, where I actually think he compliments them well, or not at all - don't want to see him on that 4th line again.

He doesnt screen the goalie on the PP rarely! stop with the Bullshit. he has been getting owned on the PP on the boards....what game are you watching????

he is a 4th liner. nothing worse nothing better.

If he was effective on the PP he would have more than 4 goals.

If he was effective the OPS would be more than 1.4

the numbers dont lie.

He does screen the goalie on the PP...so I don't know what you are talking about. He also doesn't get owned on the boards, I still don't get how he is so slippery behind the net - he is just one of those guys that can read the other player well.

Problem is, he isn't a 4th liner. He should either be with Kane/Hossa where he finished the regular season and played well...or he should be sat for a Frolik/Hayes on the 4th line where those guys can use their speed or energy.

Really hope Kaner doesn't get hurt during this run. It's a scary thought for the Blackhawks to be without him.

Last night we got crappy playoff Hossa and invisiSharp. More onus belongs on them.

Most guys not named Shaw were pretty crappy last night.

Hope to see Kane centering Hossa on the 2nd line in game 2. If they can't create some space against Phoenix, I don't know who can.

Sounds like the same problem that they started the season with though --- Sharp Toews, and I think Brunette just weren't working that well as a line...

I don't even remember how they solved it -but it didn't involve putting Kane back with Toews.

He's so effective that the Blackhawks want more traffic

Umm duh? Of course they want more traffic. After brunette, Toews, and Shaw...who stood on top of the paint? Saying that has nothing to do w/ how effective or ineffective Brunette or anyone else is in front. Just about every team will say they need more traffic after a loss. Pretty standard thought and answer.
If Brunette and others were effective, the team would be satisfied with the screening no?

Anyways, I'm glad Shaw played big Thursday, and hopefully he'll be rewarded for his efforts tomorrow night.

I wonder if Kane will play at Center at any point in this series.

Every equal strength and PP line needs net presence. The rub is that only so many guys have the skill and balls to take the punishment to be be that guy.
I just hope Brunette is the Blackhawks biggest problem going forward.

If it is, CHAMPIONSHIP :D

... and not to mention that they don't always get assists for effective screens, so hockey card collector types don't have many stats to point at...

being effective translates to quality scoring chances; however that doesn't always result in goals.
