Great at bat by Rizzo. Love to see him work the count to 3-2 and take the high hanging breaking pitch to the opposite field. Hopefully he will continue to use all fields because that was one of the knocks on him.

I wish Shark would use the splitter earlier in counts instead of just waiting til he got to 2 strikes. Anyone else noticed that his velocity seems to be down a tick the past couple of months (95-97 beginning of the season and seems more 94-95 now)? Anyways good first inning from him that looked more like good Shark.

I was postulating that because he's never thrown more than 141.2 IP professionally that he might be feeling the effects of fatigue. He might also be dialing it back for the purposes of control.

Its expected of him to lose a bit on MPH

Hopefully he gets a bit more control with MPH down

I just worry up pitchers throwing through fatigue. That is when it becomes real easy for mechanics to get the slightest bit out of whack and the injury risk goes way up.

That 0-2 splitter is gonna become predictable. I agree he should try throwing it at different counts when he goes through the next turn of the order.
