Hendry letting DeRosa go was perfect timing, I'll give him that. If Aram leaves, 3rd will be a huge gaping hole.

Hey guys.

Not worth the cost of prospects. He's not that big of an improvement over Ramirez to warrant ~5 million more in salary than Ramirez for the next three years, plus the specs. The Mets will want a huge return for him.

Not if they want to keep Reyes. They'll likely have to dump salary with the mess they're in. I could see them letting him go cheaper than his worth, but the price tag would still be high. But with Ramirez likely leaving, Wright is the best choice out there.

I think it's too early to say whether or not Ramirez is likely leaving or not. We don't have a GM. I think that Theo will realize that 3B is going to be a huge hole without Ramirez and he'll get him signed. Or he'll have something up his sleeve. But there is no way that the Cubs will allow a repeat of this year to happen for Theo in his first year. Talk about a PR nightmare.

Theo wouldn't let that happen. He's a bright guy and knows his stuff. If he can get Ramirez back, then all the more props to him. If not, I trust him to make the best decision possible.

A-Ram is not a must. He is not a clutch hitter. His defense has considerably gotten worse and worse. Do we honestly as a fan base think we can win next year? I know baseball is an any given year type of deal but honestly? It is highly unlikely we win and it would make more sense to play DJ Lemahieu or Josh Vitter even though they probabply arent ready.

Im in the mode where we need total change. We have given these vets to much time and it is time to see some energy and the "WANT" to win in Wrigley again. It wont happen with Ramirez and alot of other current Cubs

A-Ram is one of the GAMES best clutch hitters lol. He has over .280 career avg with RSIP

^^^ Very true. WIth 2 outs though it drops immensly to .220. Also can you really count hitting for a 70 win team not making the playoffs clutch? I personally think the money he wants and the value he brings to the team is SO not worth it.

Problem is what do you replace him with? Already a below avg offense. Imagine what it be withouth 25 HR + 90 RBI +.... If Cubs want to sign Fielder they will need protection also. Sorry but there is NO replacement for A-ram

not disagreeing. I think A-Ram is more value then any of those other options. I am one of those fans who would rather have Fielder then Pujols to and I would be ecstatic if we obtained him BUT, Even then can we win? Are pitching is a mess Samardgiza being considered a starter again. Im a big ND fan but cmon. We need help EVERYWHERE. It could take multiple years to be a winner again Epstein or not. My opinion is start the youngsters give them a learning curve before we are winners again. Then when Ramirez is 37 and cant play effective anymore we dont have to worry about an old unreliable 3B when we HOPEFULLY have one in Lamaiheu or Vitters. my 2 cents

It needs to go either 1 of 2 ways

1: Go for it and spend money to win now, Fielder, A-Ram, 1 or 2 SP

2: Just go crazy young everywhere. Ricketts wont do that cause then people wont show up to ballpark. I dont want this halve ass crap where Cubs sign a mid level 3B and try to sell to fans they trying to win. So either get A-Ram or go straight to Vitters. A-Ram already said though if Cubs are showing they going to try and win he would resign. Signing Fielder would show him right away

I would love more then anything for option 1 to happen.

Problem is outside of Fielder and Pujols VERY weak FA market.
Best pitcher I think Is Wilson. Thats it. And if they are looking the trade route Ricketts although he wants to fill seats he is trying to "sell" the whole lets build the farm system regime. So I dont see him trading anymore prospects either.

Honestly what i do is sign Fielder since he only 27, resign A-Ram cause he top 3B in baseball, and just fill SP for 1 year. Next FA class is very good for SP and then Z and Demp contracts will be up. SO maybe then can go nuts with 2 SP from that class. Then still have Fielder at 28, A-Ram been hitting for 10+ years now. I dont see him slowing down. Byrd contract will be over. If the next GM spends the money right team could be contending in 2013 easy

Yes could be. I agree with you 100% in signing Fiedler that would be AWESOME. Difference from you though is I see Ramirez slowing down. This is his first season in 2 years he completes 130+ games. AND take into consideration it was a contract year. Im worried overall. If they can win next year by doing that by all means do it. I just dont want to wait another year for another FA class and watch another year of miserable overpaid Cubs haha.

Do I think we can win? Maybe. It all depends on who the GM is, IMO. We don't have a GM, so it's too early to make conclusions.

Plus, it's not just about this year, do you think DJ or Vitters will be better than A-Ram in 2 years? I don't. I see us having a legit shot at contending in 2013 and I'd much rather have Ramirez on that team than a raw Vitters, whose defense is going to make you want to shit monkeys.
