Dont they still have 10+ yrs left on the lease?
Lawyers can find loopholes with lack field maintenance, being the smallest capacity in the league, security reasons, etc. it’s kind of fucked up where the Bears are in a large city with a Alien landing pad for a stadium that should have a retractable dome and big enough to be one of the biggest stadiums in the league. Chicago can’t go for SBs, Final Fours, year round concerts, tennis competitions in winter, etc.

Look at LA and Vegas. Those stadiums are beautiful.

until 2033 but the NFL knows there is a lot of money to be made with a new stadium. If the Bears want to move, they will move.

2002 and cook county taxpayers are on the hook for it until 2033 already
Semantic arguments. It opened in 04 i believe. Either way i feel thats pretty new in stadium years. Anyone disagree with me on that? It's not the tax payers fault they opted to build a piece of shit.

The bears can get out of their lease whenever they want so long as the NFL approves, it which they will because a bigger stadium means more $$

The city of chicago and frankly and all of the neighboring suburbs need to make a stand. Publicly financed stadiums are common but it will continue until someone says no. Even when teams build their own stadiums, they will get some sort of tax break. It needs to end.

I'm out of state, but I can feel the Tax Payers pain. Illinois is already one of the worst states when it comes to Taxes, asking them to foot the bill is adding insult to injury.

The taxpayers better not be forking anymore cash for a new stadium. The current one was renovated in 04. That is pretty new in my eyes.
So very tired of NFL owners pulling this crap. We collectively have major infrastructural issues that need to be fixed and these guys want a new stadium every 15 years. I drove across I-40 through Tennessee and I was dodging potholes on the interstate. If the owners want a new stadium, let them pay for it.

Living in CA now, it's been about a decade since I've been to Soldier Field. I never liked the outside but inside was pretty nice and the wheelchair access was easy. I've been to Levi (49ers) stadium for a few events out here which definitely was better. You may feel like the renovations are still fairly new in stadium terms but think about this....by the time they would approve everything including the final plans and begin/complete construction - we're likely talking anywhere from 5-10 years from now. 25-30 years since the renovations and major technological advances since then should warrant a new stadium.

You want to see a true shithole go to Oakland Alameda stadium...inside and out it's like a 3rd world. Bathroom floors literally covered in shit & piss, stalls busted, handrails ripping straight outa walls, busted concrete everywhere, I could go on. Surprised someone didn't put me up on blocks to steal my wheelchair rims.

The issue is the cost - and the fact that it only is used for 8-9 NFL Games per year. The rest of the time it is used for non football events.

The McCaskeys could probably afford a Jerry Dome, but it's a lot of cash up front when you can just sign a long term lease instead. Unless they want to get into the stadium management business, im sure it will eventually be built by a combination of private and taxpayers funds and leased to the team

Great. The mccaskeys can pay for their own stadium and lease them out and make more money the rest of the year.

Arlington Heights practically giving away the land for a new stadium. Local gov’ts will give out tax breaks, but financing a stadium? Nope.

The Bears owners want to own a stadium like Jerry Jones, Stan Kroenke. Why share revenue if they have it all including naming rights to the stadium. The NFL will give them money like Davis and Raiders.

Also a franchise owning its stadium will at least double the worth of the franchise. This is the McCaskey’s long term goal. To sell high.
