The best pass rusher in the nfl(In my opinion), Micah Parsons, only had 6.5 sacks in 26 college games. So yea.
Well he played a different position in college (MLB). He didn't become an EDGE player until a year or two (or more?) into the pros.

Bad example.

Because he gets a shit ton of pressure. Stats aren't everything. Latu would be my first choice at EDGE in this class.
I wouldn't go anywhere near Latu with that neck injury. He was forced to retire by Washington Team doctors and only came back after he transferred to UCLA and they cleared him. That is one big red flag. Not taking that risk in the first round. Neck injuries don't ever completely go away. They fused vertebra together. That means he is overcompensating elsewhere and eventually something will show up. No thanks.

Basically....if the #1 edge prospect is going #9 overall (maybe a spot higher/lower) the class is fairly blah at the top end.

Not saying they won't be good pros but usually top edge guys are gone in top 5 or higher

Only one I'd take at 9 is Turner.....and not sure he isn't better pro as a olb in a 3-4

DE/Edge is probably the weakest class in this entire draft. At least that's what it seems like.

Lb and rb are pretty weak.....but generally replacement level positions anyway.

Think the options at 9 are:

1) Wr if one of top 3 left
2a) Turner
2b) Murphy
3) Bowers (just based on bpa but not a huge need or positional value at #9)

If a qb or alt fall to 9, could see a trade down 1-3 slots while still getting one of above 4

If the bears go anything other than DE at 9 then they should trade up from the 3rd rd to grab braswell or Bralen Trice if they are still around.

Agreed. The only edge outside rd 1 I'd be interested in is Kneeland or maybe Kamara. I'd rather spend those picks on IOL or wr where you can still get solid players in 3

Could do with DE / Edge help but I don’t think the value will be at 9 for that position. There’s a good chance that one of the top WRs or Bowers will be there and it would be hard to pass on any of them. This could set the offence and CW up for years.

Looking at college stats is so fucking stupid.
Seriously? What do you look at the results at the underwear olympics? Sure you watch the tape, but no stats are no stats. Aaron Donald had 27.5 sacks his last three years in college for a DT which was pretty telling for how good he was going to be.

So? Lots of people have stats and don’t do shit. Daniel Hunter had 4.5 sacks in college and has 87 in the pros. You look at traits. How the guy plays. But stats are meaningless.

(Meaningless may be too harsh…. You prefer traits AND production but stats on their own are meaningless is my point)

If the Bears can find an outstanding pass rusher at 9, then pull the trigger asap. Remember who the MVP of the 85 Bears was? DE Richard Dent.

He was a hidden gem and a lower round draft pick. GMs who can find great players in middle and lower rounds are a huge bonus for any team.

I like Kneeland or Booker as DE3/4s with upside to maybe eventually develop into a DE2 after a few seasons. I think Kamara will always be a pass rush specialist given his size but he might end up being the best pure pass rushing edge taken outside of the first round.

The stats vs eye test debate could go on forever, there are strong examples both ways. So hard to evaluate how college players will translate to the pros.

It amazes me that anyone speaks with total confidence about it, it’s great to have opinions as that’s the fun of the whole thing (and some people are more right than others). But eveb people who get paid a lot of money to do the job get it wrong all the time.

One thing I would say is I think character and football IQ should always be high on the list, even when not combined with the most physically gifted players. You don’t see those things on the stat sheet or in the underwear olympics and I’d guess this I’d where the best organisations win.

Cleared and played 2 full seasons at full speed after he was cleared. You won’t take him, I’ll gladly will.
