Maybe it’s just me and it might be slightly shallow, but I tend to forget about the religious aspect of Christmas. I know it’s there and have heard some of the stories from the bible but it’s never really been part of the celebration for me.

Ever since I was a kid it was just a holiday to celebrate by taking time off work/school, spending time with family, eating, drinking, giving/receiving presents and putting up lots of decorations.

Almost every year I’ll drive by a church on Christmas Eve around midnight and it’ll take me a couple of seconds to figure out why there are so many cars there.

I grew up with the religious aspect, but to me it was more so a chore than everything else surrounded by Christmas. I loved looking at peoples Christmas light displays, and obviously as a kid loved receiving presents. Seeing my Uncle and Aunt the one time a year I'd see them was nice too.

Now I see it more so for what you see it as. Time off work, family, eating, drinking, giving/receiving presents to/from people you care about and while I hate putting up decorations, I still enjoy the look and feel of them.

One thing I always like to point out to atheists when they say "holiday":

The origin of the word "holiday" is from the Old English hāligdæg, meaning "holy day".

I just put up my lights today instead of watching football, which made me feel productive for a Sunday. I ended up replacing all my lights with some newer technology. I got some light show LEDs and it's pretty impressive.
The LED lights are getting more like the the old traditional lights. The first few generations of LED lights were brighter, but didn't have the same sparkle as the traditional ones.

About the only lights I can put up at my condo are window decorations. The HOA won't allow any outside decorations.

That's super lame, I bought a wreath off my boss's kid (who's a boyscout).

If I pay your fine, will you display an air-inflated Grinch on the balcony?...

When I was a kid, the Christmas lights were slightly smaller than regular incandescent bulbs. They were huge. Then everyone went to the C-7's and C-5's, and eventually, the mini's and now LED's

The old ones kinda looked like the lighting strung up at construction sites, but the bulbs were smaller than the full sized ones we are used to seeing

The best lights are retro incandescent,

I use those, but am forced into LED's b/c about 10 years ago I found out real quick a breaker box can only handle so many incandescent. Those candle bulbs use 3 watts each, a few hundred and you're almost at 1,000W.

Those are C-7's...The ones I remember are even larger...They resemble a refrigerator bulb...The same shape as a regular lightbulb, but a bit smaller..I remember my dad finally threw em out cause they had the old cloth wrapped wire...lol

My favs are the C-7's though
