Its his opinion, based on playing against both of them and watching their games. Deron Williams is definitely one of the best PURE POINT GUARDS in the NBA. And he is better in that role than Rose is, though I think Rose is a better player, Williams plays the position better.

I would take CP3 over both.

But Derrick is second easily!

Most NBA fans including myself think that Rose is the best PG in the NBA when healthy, a poll at ESPN was done a few weeks ago with Rondo finishing 2nd.

Deron Williams isn't really a pure PG. He has some tendencies you would expect an off-guard to have as well.

I don't think Williams is a pass-first PG 100% of the time either- much like Rose. Rose being the more dominant scorer, and Williams is the better passer. That is why I would take Rose if I was choosing between them.

Magic Johnson had some tendencies you would expect a center to have...but he was a point guard, and a great one. Williams averaged 10+ assists for 4 years straight. Rose has never averaged over 8 assists in any year in his career. If you watched Deron Williams in Utah, you know he is a top level point guard who does what is asked in that position. His off guard tendencies came out...when he had nobody else that could produce in New Jersey.

That said, when I speak of a pure point guard...I am speaking of a player showing the ability to run an offense and getting other players involved. Deron Williams has done that on the highest level, and he has shown that ability on a higher level than Rose has.

"Higher level" seems like strong phrasing. I think Rose and D-Will are both at the same level in terms of their passing ability. D-Rose is also a very good passer and gets more people open than Deron because of the attention his other skills (dribble penetration/superior finishing ability). D-Will often opens things up for others with his tendency to shoot a lot of three's. D-Will also has a bag of tricks in his passing game Rose doesn't. But I would put either's passing at a "different level" than the other. It might seem like I'm nit-picking but I think that is the best way to be fair to Rose.

I also consider Rose to be a better defensive player than D-Will for what that is worth.

do you really think it's his opinion? This seems like a non-story. A reporter prolly asked him a baited question, he answered it as he should have. If anyone asks you the question, "do you like/appreciate/praise your new boss/co-workers more than your old ones?", you answer "yes".

I wouldn't put Rose in the top of my point guard list if I was looking for a pure point guard for my team (if I had one). There are other better passers, and if Teague pans out (it could happen) as some superstar pointguard (it could happen), it might be fun to put D. Rose at the 2 and shake it up, stir and add some flavor, then see what you've got.

Until Rose shows he can run a team on the same level that Williams can, I will continue to say Williams is a better point guard and Rose is the better basketball player.

If you read the quote...its pretty clear how he feels.
