Could he possibly stay healthy at S? He would need to put on 25 pounds to make that transition. That being said, if he can do it, I don't think he can be a cover corner at this point.

He's the same height as Rolle and 15lbs lighter. I think he could play it if he got slightly bigger, he's fairly physical for his size. He could probably have played in Lovie's defense at corner but not this one.

CB and OLB are the biggest needs for the Bears.

The Bears desperately need a pass rusher across from McPhee, he is literally rushing the passer by himself.

This is arguably the least talented roster (specifically on defense) in the NFL.

The number one position of need is EVERY FUCKING POSITION.

Jury still out on players like Goldman, Amos, et al.

Ball, Mundy, Rolle, Ratliff are all veteran 'band aids'

Shea, Young, Houston, etc can and should all be gone next year.

Jones, Sutton, Fuller - can all go and I wouldn't care.

I would personally be happy replacing every player on the defensive side of the ball save for McPhee. Goldman and Amos are nice stories, but thrust into starting roles due to injury.

I think if we get another better-than-average pass rusher, that will help our DBs a lot. we should have a top 7 pick. Unless the best ever CB to ever play college football is available, we have to go QB or pass rushing Dlineman.

I think Fuller is uncoachable and will likely need a huge wake up call like getting released or traded for a 6th rd pick before he starts to take to coaching.

I also think Fuller is a dumb ass when he claps every time he gives up a big play or touchdown.

To the OP, I don't feel it is that clear. If a QB, as a single individual, has the greatest impact on a teams performance, then the biggest need if you have a QB who is struggling is QB. In my opinion.

This. Bears pass rush is anemic. DB's aren't a good lot- but would certainly look better if anyone could generate consistent pressure on an opposing QB.

Ramsey and Hargreaves are two of the best defensive backs available next year. I think Ramsey can be a good corner in the league, but his best fit may be at free safety and we already have one in Amos. I do worry about Hargreaves size due to being 5'10. Fangio likes those 6'0+ corners, but I think he could be an exception though.

Bingo. Most important positions in football:

- QB
- Dominant pass rusher
- LT

Everyone gets a hard on for WR. When was the last top a top 5 WR won an SB? I'd have to go back to Reggie Wayne against the Bears 10 years ago.

That's why I hated the Marshall trade/White pick.

Those plays and throws (resulting in PI) don't happen if a rush occurs.

There are few truly great DBs. Perhaps 2 'shutdown' corners in all of football? Most great DBs are made great by a great front 7 in front of them or safeties along side of them.

Same goes for RB. Emmett Smith has the record but got it playing behind one of the best o-lines in the history of the NFL (and a great blocking tight end) AND with one of the best QBs of all time throwing to one of the best tight ends of all time and one of the best WR of all time. Lots of other places for the D to place their attention. Compare to Walter to played behind shit lines for the early/mid parts of his career and with very few other offensive weapons.

yeah a rush helps Dbs, but Dbs can also help the rush - the term is called coverage sack... but yeah.. a corner can only cover for so long and needs that rush in the grand scheme of things...

like you said though... a real shut down corner that can take his side away ala primetime is rare.

unless your drafting the next sherman or revis in the 1st round its not worth drafting a cb in the 1st. like other posters have mentioned, 95% of cb's depend on the pass rush and so drafting a cb high really is a wasted pick. If you are picking a cb in the top 15 you should expect him to a shutdown corner or very close to it.

I'd go for a starting offensive tackle with the 1st pick but we do need a corner early also.
