If he snaps the ball with say thirty seconds left, and there's a penalty for not being lined up correctly, it's a five yard penalty and either a ten second run-off or having to use your last time-out. So either 20 seconds and 1 TO remaining or close to 30 seconds left and no TO's.

Both of which are superior to zero seconds left, no?
It would've been interesting to watch him try to snap it from the ground with his teammates all up and down the field. Hell, he could've got offsetting offsides penalty too!

Man it was really painful watching the last play on this video. You can clearly see Flus and a bunch of players yelling at Caleb to snap the ball but he just seems to not be paying any attention. This is not to take any blame away from Flus but man this was brutal to watch.

Any QB, I dont care who it is would not do this sort of thing... no excuses. You gotta do a better job if you want to lead a team... just brutal.

Eberflus is a proven idiot but I still can’t believe Kmet committed a 2nd pick penalty on that drive. It was a huge mistake!

Also, Caleb missed DJ on the crosser but he did have some pressure coming in by his legs. He still needs to make a better throw.

Still Flus needed to identify the late clock problem and simply call timeout. You’re the head coach!

If he had paid attention to simple details, the Bears most likely have 3 to 4 more wins. That’s brutal!

Enjoy your golden parachute Matt.

The Bears ran the same play again and got the same result. It's like no one taught Kmet how to properly execute the play...the Bears run the play and see Kmet get penalized....then they run the same play again. Thomas Brown?

That’s Jim Dray’s responsibility. He’s the TE coach. He needed to sit Kmet down with a Surface, show him the play, and make the correction.

LOL, what is the penalty if you physically take the ball from the referee's hands before he has a chance to place the ball and then snap it to yourself? Is it just an illegal snap?

Haven't seen it mentioned; lost in the shuffle and totally ironic:

The Bears staff wasted their 2nd timeout with 45ish seconds left and the clock stopped because.........

They though the playclock was going to expire before the next snap (even though Williams got the snap off as the TO was granted before the playclock expired)

Yet 3 plays later they let the final 32 seconds run out.

Just a perfect way to end the Fluberbus career.

But hey.....mgmt needs a 2+ hour meeting midday the following day to debate his employment status.

There was a theory I read the day after the loss. Basically it said that Caleb Williams purposely ignored instructions from his coaches during the final play because he wanted to throw a last second game winning TD, on the highly viewed Thanksgiving day game, to his close friend and fellow rookie, Rome Odunze.

He threw a great deep pass and almost pulled it off.

Borom is useless and the tug by Lions DB ignored by refs on last throw was pathetic
Not as pathetic as the PI that was called on the Lions defender that wasn't even close to a PI, that got the Bears in that position to begin with.
Just stop already with your refs excuses BS.
and while we are on the subject, what about the non call false start by the Bears on the same play as the bogus PI call?

Not as pathetic as the horse collar tackle that didn't happen and ended up giving the lions 7 points

Or the officials missing Keenan Allen getting his helmet taken off and then getting their feelings hurt when he tossed the ball their way and giving him the penalty instead.

Or your dumbass coach not calling a time out.
Missed calls and bad calls on both sides of the ball that game, Bears fans always acting like the losers they are crying as if it only happens to them.
Most important is the last drive, and the fact remains, that was not PI, they missed a false start, and the game should have been over already.

/end debate

Oh shut up. The Lions played the 2nd half like giant pussies against a team they were destroying. Your lucky the Bears coach went full r/trd. Play like that against the Packers tonight and you will lose.

I didn't cry about the refs. But you cherry picked only the call that went against the Lions when in reality it was a horribly officiated game on both sides.

1) I pointed out the horrible call (two actually) against the lions only after a crybaby was complaining about the refs on the last play. If you fail to see the irony of a Bears fan crying about what he thought should have been a PI (it wasn't) on the last play of the drive/game, when in fact the only reason they where even in that position was a terrible PI call on the Lions that would have ended the Bears drive prior to that, well that is on you.

2) LMAO about the only call that went against the Lions, get real.

3) I didn't say it was you crying about the refs

4) Agreed, the refs sucked that game, but I do not think it was one sided, as many on CCS might have you believe.

Caleb did mismanage the situation, but a competent coaching staff sees the trainwreck in action and intervenes to help their rookie out in a niche situation after getting his brains smashed against the side of his head the play before. It *is* a failure on CWs part, but an understandable and perhaps predictable one, rookie QBs are going to have to learn some lessons the hard way. If Caleb keeps finding himself in these types of situations I do think its fair to ask if he's situational football challenged.

What is surprising to me is an NFL head coach sees this with 14 seconds left after seeing CW audible out of the QB draw and thinks "yeah theyre for sure going to get this ball snapped in time ", with hindsight we know Kmet is supposed to be on the line, so not only are they not set but also they're not even lined up right yet. The coaching staff is too oblivious to see the freight train coming down the tracks here, even though Eberflus said himself in the postgame that he thinks they need 12 seconds minimum to comfortably get 2 plays off.

This is what it looks like when a coach mentally panics on the sideline, he isnt alert or aware enough to deviate from whatever the plan was even though at this point it was blatantly obvious to everyone watching the team was in the process of fucking this up. Thats just not acceptable for an NFL head coach in any year let alone his 3rd, and its a big part of why Eberflus' legacy will be one of the worst game managers in recent history of the NFL.
I give Caleb credit for at least knowing he had to throw a semi hail Mary to the end zone due to the time left

hang in there, the Packers have some key injuries as well, just hoping we get out of this game injury free
